    Improving green hosting?

Has there been anything new done to green hosting?

What's being improved on green hosting and the most difficult thing when it comes to green hosting?

I am not sure there is green or black hosting really. Some hosts are putting in more green power or buying it form the electric company. The biggest advances has been in server technology, you get more done with less heat then ever before. We have been able to shut down one of our a/c units as we have gotten rid of the older xeon servers that produced so much heat.

Using bigger servers and virtualizing more, using some solar/wind power, using hot aisle containment, and using free air cooling are some of the biggest changes now.

when you choose a green hosting service over cheaper hosting services then you are joining a good cause & your money will be invested in a great cause.
Therein lies the rub. Most people are all for "green" until they find out there is a cost premium.

Until the cost of the technology comes down or until you convince more people that there is "a great cause" you won't reach enough critical mass to support "green."

Very true. What about the bigger EIG companies that claim they subsidize their energy expenditures?
