on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 as follows:

    New Domain Pricing Tier:
    PREMIER from $7.45 to $7.95
    VOLUME from $8.45 to $8.95
    BASIC from $9.45 to $9.95

If VeriSign, Afilias, and Public Interest Registry (PIR) have raised their prices again, then it's likely many of the other regisrars will raise their pricing, too.

    (Or go out of business.)

Domain sales is a very low-margin game, and registrars walk a fine line of giving a low cost to their resellers yet still make enough revenue to provide decent support and services.

If VeriSign, Afilias, and Public Interest Registry (PIR) have eroded that small margin even further, then the ramifications are that registrars will either make less profit, lower services, drop support levels... or raise prices.

Where can we get the news about "Recently, domain registries VeriSign, Afilias, and Public Interest Registry (PIR) notified all ICANN-accredited registrars that they will be raising their wholesale prices."
Even if they "notified", the price "will" increase in the future, but not before September 30, 2008?
I'm thinking of looking for a new registrar for almost a thousand domains.

All registrars will be putting up their prices by a similar amount, unless they are having some kind of temporary promotion.

PremiumHost, you can get the full updates from the ICANN site, just search for them.

Verisign has put the prices up, but not by 50 cents I might add, its lower than that Some registrars will increase their pricing by whatever they see fit, we promised our resellers our increases are always actual, rather than inflated.

You might want to wait until a week or two after the new price increase from verisign...

If you do a price comparison right now, it might not be very accurate since not all registrars have announced their price increases yet.

The question in my mind is why are all these registrars increasing their domain prices:

    Bad economy?
    Low supply/high demand?

    Hi MrZippy,

Well it’s not supposedly is it! The registries are putting the prices up, you don’t see us putting up TLD’s or ccTLD’s that haven’t had an increase...

To answer dbbrock1, the registries increase the price to us, some of us, sell domains at cost + a little, some of us sell them under cost and some basically sell at cost plus loads!!!

    Hi Jayinsac,

What you should look at is first year cost and first time renewal (so 2 years) because that way you can then work out if the first year is just a sweetener and you basically pay more year 2 onwards!
