    Youtube finally given in?

When Google bought Youtube they put money aside to battle obvious legal issues such as copyright claims. This was a big thing, a lot of people thought Youtube would just fall to peices with media being constantly removed.

Just now while I was watching a video on Youtube, I got this message.
This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Sony BMG
For those of you who don't believe then there is an attached screenshot. I think this is a big blow against Youtube and has opened the way to a lot more copyright claims and removals.

The funny thing is the video still plays.. strange...

It's not new. Youtube has been dong that for some time. If a copyright holder files a complaint with Youtube they will remove the video - as they should.

Youtube never condoned illegal distribution of copyrighted materials. They can't scan the millions of videos they collect one at a time, so they rely on copyright holders to police their contents. I imagine they're still on somewhat shaky ground for facilitating it in the first place (I don't know what the Youtube policy is against people who upload copyrighted materials - they're probably covered though). But enough of Youtube contains videos by the creators or people who have the right to post them that it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

These content providers have plenty to fear with youtube too, given that youtube will probably overtake TV in the next 5 years. It's already taking eyeballs off the TV in the younger markets, and this is a real worry to the TV execs.

I read somewhere that the BBC actually provided YouTube with the Top Gear videos, hence why you see so many episodes.

    Yep! You're right about that.

There is a "Flag" button in YouTube, which you can report the content as inappropriate(Illegal, Graphic, Porn, Copyrigted etc.). I am guessing that if they receive a certain amount of reports for same video, they "suspend" the video automaticly, until some human verifies the content.

I like the entire whole episodes of Top Gear on youtube. It just doesn't make sense having excerpts.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
