SPF (type 99) record
Hello,
I was checking the status of my domains in dnsstuff.com, and I can see this warning regarding SPF:
This domain has an SPF record, or an SPF formatted TXT record. SPF usage may have a negligible impact on spam prevention and if implemented incorrectly cause serious mail delivery problems for remote users. This software does not check the content of your SPF record to test if it is well designed only that it exists. Your SPF record(s) for each nameserver is/are:
"v=spf1 a mx ip4:178.11.11.11 -all"
"v=spf1 a mx ip4:178.11.11.11 -all"
An SPF (type 99) record was not found. This record type is planned to supplant the SPF formatted TXT records, and emerging software may eventually only process this record type.
Do anybody know what a SPF (type 99) record is?
Thank you!!!

You can try to start learning more about type 99 here.

Seems there are two types of SPF: text and type 99.
How to implement the second one? Maybe it is not supported yet by control panels.
Thank you!!!!

np. I suppose that the majority of CPanel-provided DNS editors doesn't support SPF type of record.
According to this, you just create corresponding record (SPF), starting it with "v=spf3".Last edited by Master Bo; 06-24-2012 at 08:06 AM. Reason: merging asnwers

Thank you Master Bo, I will ask my hosting provider if they can be implemented.

I'm bumping this thread because it still turns up as the very first hit on Google. All other hits are nearly just as old. I wanted to post cause as useful as Master Bo's post was, there was a slight error in it.
Actually, you DON'T want to do that apparently. According to this link http://www.openspf.org/Community/SPFv3-SPF-RR-exclusive,Admins MUST NOT create RRs of type TXT that start with v=spf3.
SPF entered as TXT records was the accepted normal cause the alternative, and apparently PROPER method of SPF as it's own DNS record, was not widely adopted yet. These days, it's working it's way into system. I haven't seen it in cPanel yet though.
Entering in SPF records in as TXT or SPF should be fine for now. I haven't encountered any servers that exclusively use SPF. They all still look for TXT records.
