Was just about to post this. Not sure if this is a good move or bad one from the customers' perspective. If MT remains a separate entity, I guess then it isn't too bad of a deal for customers.

Thanks for the share guys and gals.

I usually start reading acquisition FAQs from the bottom up. Notably, "What about your CEO/co-founder Demian Sellfors?" and "What about the other co-founder, John Carey?"

I am currently with MT, they are a really good host and happy with the services so far.
Just not sure with MT being quite an expensive host (by my standards lol), how that mixes with Godaddy's very budget end offerings... I don't want to be getting to a point where I feel like I am overpaying that is all!

Looks like a lot of their customers aren't in favor of the change:

I've seen drastic changes in the way Godaddy has been functioning. Hope it's for the good.██ ElitePixels.net - Web Design / Re-Design Services

Godaddy still have proprietary crap on their servers, custom panel, etc. Very slow, very crappy. Still LOTS of anti-consumer and ethics issues for the domains. NEVER use them for domains; use Namecheap instead.
If GD leaves MT alone, it should be fine. GD isn't EIG (yet)
GD is trying to leave their old image behind. This may help. It's can go down in many ways. We'll see what happens.|| Need a good host?

From what I've read I guess the point is to target a different segment all together and they would have to leave them alone to do that.
Also with the way EIG and GoDaddy are going at it... i think some of the more popular hosts on this forum would be on their lists too.
I think there will be a lot more buys from APAC though and maybe something in Brazil

Well good luck to MediaTemple, hopefully things will get better now GoDaddy has acquired it. I personally have never been on GoDaddy's hosting platform so I really cannot judge.

In my experience Godaddy has provided good hosting, had a couple of VPS from them in the past and they always performed well.
I went to MT early this year thinking that I would pay a bit more for a bit more of a fancy server location, whatever that means!
I guess it all depends how the acquisition really works in the end, I just have that luck with web hosts, the ones I use keep getting bought out. Is this generally what is happening in this industry?
I remember EV1Servers (1st lurrrv) to ThePlanet
Then ThePlanet to Softlayer
Few other smaller hosts
Then I sold my own hosting biz too
Now, MT to Godaddy hehe. (Although they say they will operate separately! But I remember being told similar things in the past)
All great hosts by the way, and I do love Godaddy for their domains services! (Although I always end up autorenewing 4-5 domains I don't want to renew each year hehe)
I read the MT blog, I think they were very much the expected answers to those questions to calm the customer base. Other words, exactly what I would probably write in their situation. But I have picked up the following general points from the blog as a customer:
1: MT cannot rule out what will happen in the long or near future, it very much sounds like "independent for now" - honestly though they haven't got much choice on that, MT hosting is just way too different from Godaddy hosting, without saying one is necessarily better quality or value over one another.
2: The original founders who created MT are now out of the picture it seems. This is slightly bothersome but this is a business and sometimes people need to move on, I perfectly understand and respect that as a customer, and I am sure the new people in charge are wonderful people.
3: In the question about our personal information, it is unclear if "third party" includes Godaddy, or if Godaddy is included in "our systems".
I like Godaddy, but what all these people write being unhappy about this move puts a negative image in my brain, ah screw this! I'll probably end up migrating to a cheaper Godaddy server
Who knows, tomorrow I will wake up and find out that Godaddy is bought out by Google

Not surprised. Guilt by association thing.
Despite the negative comments, at least MediaTemple is responding to many of them. Then again, that's pretty much all they can really do other than support their customers up to when some of them leave.
Just a suggestion, MT, although I think you clarified it: you might as well say yes that you'll share some personal and financial information with Go Daddy. Yet, at least explain why, maybe set limits, and hope all that are...well...reasonable enough.
I haven't used you yet, but...good luck to you guys anyway.

Wow. I'd have never seen this this one coming. I'm not surprised if some customers are not happy about this. GoDaddy's reputation is not that good, and I personally can't stand their sleazy advertising.
On the other hand, promises of more speed do sound intriguing. I'm not a customer, but logging in to a GoDaddy server is "once in couple of years" type of thing. It's always been slower than average. Maybe they're getting better, who knows.

Wow, congratulations Media Temple! Loved their VPS service until it made more sense financially to get a dedicated box. Support was incredible.
Godaddy has gotten a lot better. I've talked to them on the phone a few times lately and their support has gotten better. Personable, even funny in a few cases. Not the biggest fan of their hosting but it has improved. Their email has improved a lot. I think they're really digging in and making sure the customers are happy.
As long as godaddy keeps mediatemple separate and doesn't try to integrate too much I can only see this being win-win for everyone.
