Cool How much $ can you make as a speculator in this game?

How much money can you make as a Speculator in this game?: http://progressive.powerstream.net/0...ame/start.html

Click "Continue" on the first screen and "Speculator" on the second screen.

I made $787 on one try and $2026 on another. Obviously, these are virtual amounts and not real money!

Made $1486. If only it was that easy...

In all honesty the game really isn't all that entertaining. However, thanks for sharing...

Yep, second try I just did about 1900, third try 1981, shame it doesn't go higher than 450, reaches the number, drops to 430 and then goes up again.
How did you find this? Entertains me a bit more then I expected. Haven't found many simulations and such like this but they are fun to play just so I can pretend to make 1900 in two minutes

I asked a friend about futures, and she sent me this as a fun game.

Yeah, oddly enough, it entertains me, too. The price movements also vary from one game session to another.

The futures market is more or less legalized online gambling where people have deluded themselves into believing they have a magic trick like card counting to tip the scales in their favor. Strangely congress is against online gambling for sports.

Second, this game clearly tells us that if software could be designed to aggregate news feeds for the futures market and data mine and then make trades in near instants you could gain a huge advantage.
Patron: I'd like my free lunch please.
Cafe Manager: Free lunch? Did you read the fine print stating it was an April Fool's joke.
Patron: I read the same way I listen, I ignore the parts I don't agree with. I'm suing you for false advertising.

Yes and no. Some people have tried trading algorithms that trade based on news stories and even Twitter updates, but the issue is ultimately in determining in which direction the market will move. You would be surprised how often an event may not have the impact that you would expect, or even the exact opposite impact.

    What's the key to succeed?

Is there any lag between what's on the breaking news and the chart?

Sell when its high (and sell into the negatives too) then buy when its low (buy into negatives too!)

I don't see how $xxxx would have been possible in my session.

Every session is different. If the market was mostly going "sideways" (rather than with a lot of ups and downs), $xxxx may not have been possible in that simulation session.

"Shorting" is part of making extra money in this simulation, though.

Buy 10 shares when the price is low, then sell 20 shares when the price is high, then buy 20 shares when the price is low, etc.

    Easy.

We did this over the 2 semesters in economics back in high-school. We started out with 10k and competed with the rest of the region. My teacher got ticked off when i refused to make a speech after winning.

In the fifth grade we did a basic setup with stock since we had the same teacher for two years it was long term, given a 100k virtual dollars and did exactly the opposite as what the teacher advised and came in first. She got angry when I told students to do the opposite of what she taught.

I don't know much about this stuff but I do know how to turn a profit with it, may not be large but even with real money I haven't done bad yet. I wouldn't mind doing something similar full time but I get too preoccupied with other things to actually master a skill.
