    Question Free Windows FTP Server?

Do they actually exist? I've done a google, a forum search and haven't found a single one? If they do exist, are they reliable? If they don't whats the second best option?

    Thanks,
    Alex

IIS is included, that's unless you're running XP rather than server ...

Transfering large files (over 40, 50 MB) IIS FTP hangs out after the first file is complete.
This problem occur both uploading and downloading. I google a lot and discover that is not a rare problem, but canīt find a real resolution.

The solution find here doesnīt work for me:

    Anyone experience same problem?

IIS is alright, but if you want to create users, you have to create NT accounts and it's just a pain in the arse. Plus you can't have quotas, and so on and so on.

If you want free, filezilla is about the best there is.

IIS6 will obey disk quotas set on directories on the server .

Ah, that's too much hard work. I just want to enter username, password, folder and quota to create a new ftp user

    Good point

I guess that also begs the question what 'business' cannot afford a license of a few bucks for a real ftp program?

    Ya,

Whenever Im in a situation where I have no choice but to run windows(almost never unless customer demands it) and must be running an ftp server on it, I just download and install guildftpd:

We've been using Filezilla FTP Server on a fairly busy FTP server (~500 GB/month) for a couple of years, and couldn't be happier.

LOL tons of businesses do for a very good reason.

If it is an internal or partner / extranet solution if you use IIS then you create ONE id for secure sites, ftp, exchange and it is used by all the diverse users.

In other words, think outside of the box. Multi-location mid to large size business based on AD.

The key here is where you have processes or users that need to ship around larger files from different locations. When you need to turn the user off you do it in one place.
