static IP
my ISP is charging me for a static IP address.
now maybe i have the wrong idea about what that is supposed to be, becuase i am certain i dont have one.
what specifically is this supposed to mean, static IP?if you haven't considered chapter 7 bankruptcy, maybe you should.

It would mean you have the same IP address all the time. Most people are happy enough to have a dynamic IP, but if you are hosting something at home, or want remote access to a PC etc a static IP would be handy.
If you don't know what it is you could probably save some money by not having it!Steve

The ISP should know what IP they are assigning and if it's static or not.
Try http://www.whatismyip.com, then over the next few days reset your modem a few times and see if it is always the same. You may however need to try over a slightly longer period as you might get the same IP again even if you are on dynamic. Might be worth leaving your modem off over night in the hope your IP get's reassigned to someone else.Steve

yup, i have done that a few times and it is always different as im sure any mod here who can see my IP can testify to. i dont even have to shut down or anything, it is just always different.
thats why i was saying that i dont know what they are talking about. well i guess someone owes me a couple of bucks at 10 bucks a month for several months!if you haven't considered chapter 7 bankruptcy, maybe you should.

You only have 32 different IPs in the past 30 days.
Yeah. You're not static, man.There is no best host. There is only the host that's best for you.

Unless you require remote access into your network there is no. need for a static ip address.
I could tell you a joke about UDP. But I'm not sure you would get it!

Well if you don't want/need a static ip, there is no need to determine whether or not you have one. Just tell them that you don't want it and quit charging for it, and btw, unless they can show you the confirmed order for a static ip, that you want a refund on all past erroneous billings.
BTW, in a home/soho situation, there are very few reasons why anyone would require a static.edgedirector.com
