    HostingCon 2011

Kelly caught me spying on the 2010 show floor and then subsequently gave me permission to disclose that HostingCon 2011 will be in San Diego.

    Sounds exciting

My current understanding is that its a right to work state which is critically important after the labor disaster in Washington.

I believe it was previously "rumor" status, but I verified with Kelly in person today

What's with all these 2nd tier cities? It's more than twice the price to fly to San Diego instead of a place like LA or San Fran.

Similarly its far more expensive to exhibit in a Tier 1 city.

Well for us east coast people it is about 2,385 Miles Down the road.

How much of a difference is it from a Tier 2 City Vs. Tier 1 city for an exhibit?

The convention center has a marina right behind it. Maybe HostingCon can go rent out a 200 foot yacht for a day and we can all crash there after the convention

It depends on a lot of factors, but for a smaller booth (10x10 or 10x20), figure about 1 1/2 to 2 times more expensive. Labor rates are more expensive, which means that freight handling (shipping in booth, materials, etc.) is a lot more expensive. Additionally, facilities rentals, A/V rental, food, etc. is all more expensive to the show producers which means they have to pass those costs on to exhibitors and attendees.

Hotel rooms are often more expensive in Tier 1 cities, as are bars and restaurants that sponsors might secure for parties. All in all, it's quite a bit more expensive to hold a tradeshow in a Tier 1 city, especially New York and LA. Chicago, Orlando and Las Vegas are less expensive than those two, but still more expensive than a Tier 2 city.

I'm actually in Virginia, however, my staff and DC operations are in Arizona and California. Regardless, I would choose a Tier 2 city in a right to work state over any east coast Tier 1.

Good points all across, however I would also think the attendance #s would much higher in a tier 1 city, thus justifying the costs. I also think you can always find cheaper hotels like the smaller chains (holiday inn, hampton inn, etc) as opposed to the more glamorous hotels.

Thanks for giving me the update. When do you think they are going to allow people to start registering to speak at the event next year?

I have a question about these events. I have several businesses off line and involved in the community locally. I would like to go to these events because I desire to learn and get the knowledge and information necessary to move ahead with a hosting company of my own. However due to my involvement I can not come to the event.

My question is this are these videos and books or audios that have been take and complied about the event and keynote speakers that I could purchase or view afterwards?

Please advise if anyone knows for sure. Thanks for the input.

2011 is still 3 months away

The location for the following year has traditionally been announced during the show.

Anyway I'll be there again this year. I've booked my airfares and hotel, and I'll book the HC pass this week.

Unfortunately I won't be travelling on the A380 this year though (would have been the third year in a row) - I booked on a 747-400 as the flights were significantly cheaper

They'll announce it at the show, or actually you can find out during registration by checking your show guide which will have an ad.

$650 for a flight form Toronto to San Diego with a stop over. Yikes...
