    Live Help to IRC

Just wondering if anyone could suggest a software product that will allow a user using my website to live help connect via a backend script or any other way to IRC (but obvioulsy just look like an IM session) and start a new Prviate Message with an operator.

    Thanks

Many datacentres will ban you outright for any type of IRC activity - make sure that this is OK with yours..

I would otherwise recommend using a web-driven application outright, unless there is some specific need for IRC.

If you have any PHP experience, what you require is easily done with PHP - see: http://ca3.php.net/manual/en/ref.ircg.php

Saeven, may I know what is so dangerous about IRC? Some DCs allow them and some don't.

I think it's more so the danger of running any type of standalone, unmonitored service on any server. Not to mention that depending on the IRC networks you connect to, traffic can be very high. IRC is by definition a relay mechanism, and is the common target for a number of types of attacks. It's also an open medium, are you really willing to exchange potentially sensitive client data over IRC?

I would much recommend again, that you opt for an encoded and secure chat mechanism - your clients will thank you; and you forego the risk of upsetting your DC entirely.
