    Server requirements

    Hello,

I am looking for a server provider that would allow me to have a RAID10 setup, with the option to expand on the HDD without having server downtime.

I am also looking for a minimum of 10TB bandwidth with at least a 1Gbps line.

I do not need insane amount of RAM like 32GB. 8GB as the bare basic is fine with me.

I do not need extremely high end CPU.

Also, if possible, options such as lease to own after a certain period.

I am also contemplating if it's cheaper to build my own server and colocate instead.

If I do, if I need support such as changing of HDD due to failures, remote reboots, how does this work?

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi

Most hosts will allow you to spec the machine you want, have you looked in the offers section on this forum ?

Also for people to offer meaningful help you should specify your budget and location.

    Thanks

colocation of cheap servers might be SLIGHTLY more expensive than hosted ones. But outside of that colocation generally wins out in price. As previous post said location would be helpful, and if you build a server just make sure it supports the raid mode's you want and has hot swappable bays and most do.

You should look in the dedicated server offers forum! I'm sure many offers there will fit your needs perfectly.

For that sort of bw and requirements, I'd go with a dedicated server over colocation if it's just a single machine. If a drive fails or you want to expand later, you won't have to worry about spending extra money. Nowadays, you can get a 1Gbps dedicated uplink server with 12GB+ RAM for a couple hundred bucks with 10+++TB bandwidth.

You can also actually keep your monthly price down on a leased server if you go with a provider who allows you to pay a one time setup/buydown fee on the upgraded hardware. Of course, it's very possible to find a package that already includes RAID10.

If location is not concern, Hetzner is pretty good.
