Qualifications - How important are they?
Hey,
I was randomly poking around on the Zend site today, and mysql.com and noticed these two qualifications.
MySQL Professional Certification = $200
Zend PHP Certification Exam = $200
If there are any employers out there, how important are they to you?
Does anyone have these qualifications?
Does the cost justify the rewards?
Hmmm.. where the hell am I going to get $400 from.
Also, does anyone know of any other related qualifications?

Not worth it, IMO. Never once have I been asked, or seen a person asked 'Well, are you Zend certified?'

If you don't have any previous works to show that have skill, they're probably worth it. Otherwise, it is not worth it.

Two of the developers I've worked with in the past are Zend certified, and I'll just say my idea of the certification is pretty low. They both worship Zend Dev. Environment too...hmm.

They are both just basic ways to say to employers that you know a bit.
I haven't looked at the mysql one..but the php one is pretty stupid. I think they are trying to copy what others do, but in other cases the tests mean something and can also cost more (such as those for j2ee).
Having some projects you've worked on (even ones you've done just for fun) to point employers to is going to look better and its free.

The MySQL certification is very challenging, and the Zend one expects you to have the entire manual memorized.
So in the end, one could pass the Zend certification and not have any experience under their belt.

If you are starting a web-coding business, you can also show that you are rewarded with these 2 qualifications. So I think it's worth the money. I think you have earned $ 400 back in no-time when people see you that you have got these qualifications IMHO.
