It's meant for large business, for large businesses that make millions, $5k is nothing.

Well, the price isn't set right for small businesses then.

Unless those small businesses have 10 really high paying customers.

I think they lean more on the medium-sized than the small sized. If you look at the specs, clearly it wouldn't work for most large enterprises (unless they had a lot of them), but seems to be well fitted to a medium sized business. By medium I would be implying business's with 500k - 20mil in revenue per year.

Compared to the full Google search appliance it's a bargain. The full appliance is $32,000. That isn't a guess, that's an exact number I got a quote for it. Think of it this way...you are buying something that Googles anything you have in your business. Each department can have their own set of searches, etc. It's really amazingly powerful, and $5k is a bargain for any company that makes over 500k a year.
I wish all my traffic went through AS174.

Many, many do. "Small business" generally means less than 500 employees and sales of less than $750,000 per year -- it's defined specifically for each type of business activity by the Small Business Administration, with those numbers being generally the lowest for a particular business category. In some areas of business, though, a "small business" might have annual sales of over $20 million and 1500 employees. So there are plenty of small business that wouldn't find $5000 to be a big expenditure!

The case looks like it was made by supermicro then spraypainted to the desired blue.
