Are you a troll? I operate my fiber internet, IP cams, wifi, and a small server at home from an off-grid DIY solar setup ( http://d.pr/i/QcNA/2SYnWLOx ). Running servers on a massive scale without an electrical grid is not realistic.

Did you use an online manual to set that up? If so, would you mind sharing? We deal with quite a bit of power failures where I live. It would be nice if I could have something off-grid for, you know, essentials, like internet/router/media server

You'll get a lot of naysayers and so-called "industry professionals" mocking the idea, but yes -- you can have an entire hosting infrastructure that uses absolutely no electricity whatsoever. It's actually quite common, usually among smaller / fly-by-night hosts.

    The technical term is "down".

It's easy enough to setup once you have all the components to the system but you need to spec out your appliances for instance during a power outage you might wish to use a Raspberry PI instead of your 350w computer which would of course save you energy and might mean you could have a less beefy system.

However for the sake of this thread its impossible to operate without electric.
