Need opinions for a VPS (servint or wiredtree or??)
So am looking for a new VPS provider and i'm kind of confused again on which host to go with.
Two providers who look good for now to me are servint and wiredtree.
- I would run a vbulletin forum mainly on the VPS.
- 1tb Bandwidth
- West coast (USA) preferred (Location is not so important though as long as they have a stable network)
- Support should be good (yea i need a managed host)
- Budget preferably up to $80 but if i can pay less then that it would be better.
Now the two main things that are currently my main concerns are:
- How much RAM should be going for ? The current host on which i have a site hosted.. lists our RAM usage as: (see the attachment)
- I wanted to try Litespeed out this time instead of Apache. I do know that Wiredtree offers this but does any other well known provider provide the same?
PS: Am not really looking into Knownhost as the site may contain little adult (legal) topics and as KH does not allow adult content, they are crossed out for now.Last edited by wat3v3r; 01-03-2012 at 09:24 AM.

Well, for forums I usually recommend what I use for my forums, which is 1GB of RAM. Especially if the forums are the only site on the VPS.
Are you sure KH doesn't allow adult content on a VPS? They might not, but a lot of hosts have different standards for a VPS than for a shared account, and sometimes the TOS doesn't really spell it out clearly enough. I would ask any prospective host about it in a ticket (but be specific, like "we are a car forum, and guys post pictures of girls in bikinis on cars ..." so they know you aren't going to be running the next mega-porn site).

Am pretty sure they said so before and it is also listed under Offensive Content in their AUP here: http://www.knownhost.com/aup.html
I just do not wish to run into any problem later on.

I would go for 1.5GB RAM since you're already using 1GB, and Litespeed can be done with any provider - I believe it's $14/month for a VPS licence.

I run a vBulletin forum on WiredTree and have had it there for several years. Have not had any major issues.

Indeed you can but I want the host to manage it too.. most hosts reply regarding lightspeed by saying "We can install it for you but we may not be able to manage it for you as our managed services come with apache".
Exactly... that is why I am not looking at KH
How much RAM did you buy? How many users do you have online at a time.
I do like the burst RAM being provided by ServInt though... it may help cope with the rare users spike.
