PowerVPS vs GoDaddy
I'm starting a small hosting company so I can host sites that I build for people on the side. I've got a PowerVPS server that I use to run our ecommerce sites at my day job and I'm pretty happy with them (thanks to the reviews on this board). The thing is, I've got 3 customers that have agreed to hosting. Godaddy is about half the price and I would immediately have the server costs covered with just those 3 customers. Price wasn't really an issue on the server at work, but for me, is PowerVPS really worth twice as much?
...btw, it's got to be a windows machine bc I'm an asp developer

did you ask PowerVPS if they had any current Promos. You may be able to get it a little cheaper.
Also ask yourself.
You have hosted with PowerVPS and are happy with them. Right, But have you ever hosted with Godaddy???
Would you rather pay a little more for something you know is good or take a chance at something that is cheaper?
Also Welcome to WHT

I know a vps is overkill for this but after having root access, I could never go back to using a shared machine without it :-). Plus I think a vps gives much easier scalability than some cheap reseller plan.
I just hate to be doing this on the side and start out losing money, I guess that's how most new small businesses go though
Thanks...I'm a long time lurker, new poster :-)

You know people love to trash godaddy but actually my VPS experiences with them have been very good, and they have a automated system for upgrading, reinstalls etc. As long as you don't need the godaddy support and it's up, it's excellent.
For those CPanel fans like me, godaddy started offering centOS as well.

I would never touch GoDaddy's services for anything except domain registration.

Keep in mind, GoDaddy is offering Virtuozzo based Windows VPS while Power VPS is offering Microsoft Virtual Server based Windows VPS. The experience can be quite different between the two. MSVS based VPS tend to be more expensive due to the fact there are fewer VEs per node and MSVS doesn't use templates like Virtuozzo, which attributes to the lower server density on MSVS.
If you are familiar with VMware, Parallels or other types of desktop virtualization tools, MSVS works the same way. It requires its own Windows installation and license and has a better separation of resources than Virtuozzo does.
Check out this blog, there is some good information here about VMware vs MSVS vs Virtuozzo on Microsoft Windows.

Yea we started on virtuozzo when we got our server from PowerVps, it was all they had. They had quite a few problems w/ it and finally migrated everything to msvs. The server has had 100% uptime since then.
I think our cost actually went down a little when they switched though.

PowerVPS is a great company in my opinion.
Whenever I had a request for support, they would respond to my support ticket within an hour or less with the actual problem solved - not just updates like "We're on it", but actually the problem fixed.
Their staff goes the extra mile, and if you're a beginner, it will really help set you up good.
You say that you already have a VPS with them so you should know what I am talking about
PowerVPS has more experience and the right staff for you to get what you need.
And if you're an existing client...maybe you should try to contact them to see if you can get a discount.- xFluro WebHosting

PowerVPS is a great. I have worked for with there servers and they are great Yahoo! and GoDaddy and eNom and Hosting Companies like that don't do hosting there hosting good it is usually bad hosting.
If you want to leave PowerVPS and go to some cheaper VPS. Try LiquidWeb
They only have two VPS plans

But they only run Linuix so that might not be such a good option since you can't run ASP.

PowerVPS. GoDaddy has a bad reputation as a web host, you should not be considering them at all.

PowerVPS
I have both Win and Linux VPS's with PowerVPS, neither have missed a beat (except for scheduled downtime) and the support is excellent.
I've never hosted with Godaddy, and with the way they treat their domain customers, I never will.Damian | i n f i n i x | Are you a hosting refugee?
