VPS setup
I got my first VPS a few days ago and I am playing around with it (whilst learning) before I start actually using it
After uploading the "auraclesupport diagnostic pack", the configuration required for this script alone has reminded me of the fact that there are changes to be made.
I want to ask 2 specific things:
-does anyone use: allow_call_time_pass_reference?
-do you disable magic quotes?
And more generally, what are standard/common/typical:
-apache modules that you install?
-settings that you modify?
-restrictions that you place?
-changes you make to your php.ini?
-scripts/software that help you monitor your VPS?
-other things you do in general?
EDIT: btw, I have WHM/CpanelLast edited by chess; 01-29-2007 at 12:35 PM.

No, call time pass reference has been depreciated.
Using it will always raise a warning, even when enabled (not sure).
Magic quotes are really so magic, they quote everything it sees.
More often then not, it affects files writes, and I have to use code to override it.
I don't use Apache. I use lighttpd and use PHP as a FastCGI.
I also install the following :
SmartPM is a package manager, very good for SuSE.
Webmin is a web interface that can bail you out when SSH fails.
Axel is a download accelerator. I use it when theres not enough time.
I usually create another limited account and use it.
Logging in as root all the time isn't a good idea, and you can use sudo.
For PHP.ini, I'm a developer, so I disable most limits like script exec time.
