    Moving from Co-location

One of my client cant afford his bill for hosing. This is one of those Crazy Dot.com Ideas , so they made an application and bough 2 servers and spent lots of money and now cant afford. So they want me to help them maintain the site and lower the hosting cost($500/month).
    Here is what they have:
    HARDWARE
    1. (2) Sun Ultra 60 Servers with 440 MHz Ultra SPARC-Iii
    2. 512K Ram with 18 gig HD’s in mirror
    3. 2MB L2 Cache

    SOFTWARE
    1. Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition (Release 8.1.5)

    2. Allaire Cold Fusion Enterprise Server (Release 4.5)
    License No. CF45ESL-0194220507

Application is on Cold Fusion and no one is using it(may be 2 person) so traffic is really low. Basically we need a place to hold these application. Now should we sell those server and host somewhere? Let me know guys, I'm not an hosting expert, so I am looking for some kind of managed server. what are my option?

    verio gave me this:

Yes, on VPS Solaris with Coldfusion add-on and Oracle database.

That package would cost $199/mo for VPS $30/mo for Coldfusion and $250/mo for oracle database.

you can get a dual xeon from sm f or 200 add 280 for oracle and coldfusion and have a comparable or better solution for 480 a month.

I assumed from your post that he owned the licenses already though.

from Server Matrix for 200 (plus 280 for oracle and cold fusion fees).

I haven't researched the licensing on Oracle and CF. Will you be able to move the licenses you have now, for no cost, or are you paying a recurring fee? If you don't have to pay for those services, you will have much better options. That $250 oracle fee constitutes half your costs.

just looking for suggestions, where should I look

If its got low traffic, then why even consider selling the boxes. You just need to Colo the box(es) somewhere where you don't have to pay $500/month

But since you are toning down your requirements, why not just Colo 1 box...saves a decent packet.

If you already own the Oracle and CF license, I don't know why you want to bleed yourself by renting 1 measly Oracle database. These are expensive and the pricing given above is correct...it is that expensive for Oracle database.

So, as long as your Oracle License is valid just combine the Oracle and CF on one box and colo it somewhere.... if you use less than 100 Gb Bandwidth, then go with servermatrix.com for $50/month Colo. Its best for you really.

    1. Sun Ultra 60 Servers with 440 MHz Ultra SPARC-Iii
    2. 512K Ram with 18 gig HD’s in mirror

512MB, I assume you mean? That will probably be your first bottleneck.

Are these 4U or 7U servers? or some other size? I see HE resellers doing around $15-20 per U + $80-$125 per mbit so assuming you'd only need 1 mbit (sounds like 1mbit would be plenty) and 8U space you'd be talking like $200 per month or $300, consolidate into 1 server and you could cut that some more.

I've currently got 3 1U servers in an HE reseller with 1 mbit commit and that's under $150 per month hard to beat that price.
