    Can't reach a site

I can't seem to point my browser to a particular site. Traceroute is fine, I can ping the site OK, I can even FTP into it and I can access cpanel. But I can't point to the site - I get a 404. All it has is an index.html right now but that should be enough. What could be the problem?

did you check your server logs?
are you able to telnet on port 80? if yes, try this:
    get / http/1.0
if you get the text from the index.html, maybe you're using a proxy... if not, there's something wrong on your server side, check the logs for the error...

I'm told by the client that he no longer sees public_html folder when he FTPs into the site, yet I can see it.

maybe a stupid question, but are you looking in the same folder?
how are the permissions for the public_html folder?

    Was the domain recently moved?

Try entering current domain/IP values in your PC's host file and see if it works.

Another method, change the DNS in your PC's network connection and then check in different and fresh browser.

I tried this and it works - I can point to the site. What does this mean?

Typically that would mean the domain is not pointing at the right. When you ping the domain (with the entries removed from the hosts file) Does it ping to the right ip?

And do check the domain in question at http://www.intodns.com for errors, if any correct them.
