    Exclamation Finding a FreeBSD host?

I'm having trouble finding a FreeBSD host, preferably with CPanel.

I got an account with awhost.biz, but after checking things out a bit it appears to be a CentOS server

So really just looking for a list of FreeBSD hosts, my searches in the shared hosting area returned very little results.

You can try checking out synhosting.com -- they use freeBSD for all of their services that I'm aware of. I've used them (and still do) to host a blog or two of mine.

Great uptime & decent prices. Haven't ever had to use support very frequently so can't vouch there

Just a question, Why FreeBSD strictly?

Here is one that looks reasonably okay - http://www.integrityhost.com/order.htm

Make sure you read: "Instant signup is on a Linux server. Contact sales to order any of the above plans on a Windows or FreeBSD Unix server".

    Hey, good luck!

I want a FreeBSD account to code Status2k on, as I currently code on Windows & Linux, but I would like to extend the FreeBSD functionality.

Cpanel doesn't works so good with FreeBSD and that's why most cpanel webhosts don't use it. Maybe you want to consider a webhost with Plesk or H-sphere or even webhost without any control panel as it seems you only need ssh2/ftp access to upload/edit the script.

Does you script needs open_base_dir and safe_mode off? These are some questions that you have to ask before you signup.

Well I did say "preferably with CPanel" Plesk would be fine also.

And yes it does in some cases, which is why I ask before I signup.

The way its going might be best to get a FreeBSD VPS or Dedi.

Problem is again that most vps providers support only the most common linux distros. Maybe the best solution for you is to get a low end dedicated server (Celeron, 512MB ram) and install some virtual servers (linux, freebsd, etc) using vmware or another technology.

I use MiniVds for test and they do offer FreeBSD 6.2 . They don't have Cpanel but they have developped ISPManager which can help you to configure/manage accounts.

    Hope it helps.

If you all need is a FreeBSD shell, I can recommend netspike.org as I have personally used their services. It's on a FreeBSD Staminus server.

However, this does not have cPanel or Plesk.

    Smile

Why not get a PC and install the o/s you want for development purpose? It doesn't really have to be a high-end pc, a pentium 3 would work and it doesn't cost much.

Yeah I may get another PC and set it up with FreeBSD, Windows, Linux and test on that.

Why not just use vmware [free for such use]?

CartikaHosting offers FreeBSD hosting on H-Sphere (not cPanel):

    http://www.cartikahosting.com/cluste...D-Web-Hosting/

It's not exactly what you are looking for, but if cPanel isn't essential, they could be an option for you.

You could try the host quote feature, that should get you hosts contacting you if they have freebsd and cPanel
