Can anyone tell the difference between Microwave and Microwave Oven, please.

This might be a stupid question, but I really need to know, hehe...

Microwave is the 'name' of the wave that is used in sattelite transmission or oven amongst other utilities.

Mocrwave oven is specifically an oven that cooks using microwaves to excite the water particles, which becomes hot, in the food to cook it.

    hmm..

It's weird though, I was buying a new microwave oven, and there were two selections 'microwave' and 'microwave oven'.

Now, go figure which one I need.

    Cool

Felix, explained it good. I don't know what I'd do without a microwave oven.

What you are looking at is probably a microwave vs. a microwave with a a convection oven. I believe this functions more like a traditional oven, but I'm not quite sure. My parents had a convection (sp???) oven. I have no clue what mine is. Cheap Sanyo that cost me $89 (yet has 1,000 Mico-watts of power and is full size). DOn't go for the really cheap ones as they just take longer to cook stuff.

I thought microwaves had something to do with miniature surfers.

Nope, there is no such thing as a microwave with a convection oven.

I convection oven is simply an oven with a fan, so you don't get cold pockets in the oven, usually the convection ovens are made smaller, but that's the only difference.

A microwave and microwave oven are the same thing.....when you are in an appliance store.

You know, I'm always amazed at how small these things are. Obviously, they make them that way so you can fit the miniature surfers in them; but it is, nonetheless, a fine engineering achievement.

Well there might not be *anymore*, but my parents in fact have one. They've cooked turkeys and cakes with it. I know it is a microwave/convection oven, I am sure of this. I've never really looked into it, but it was quite a fancy one, and cost them more than my cheapie one. This was errr... quite a few years ago though.

[/B][/QUOTE]Actually, the term "convection oven" is often used to refer to might also be called a "conventional oven," as opposed to a "microwave oven." The presence or lack of a fan notwithstanding, it cooks through the use of heated air. And there are (still) combination ovens that can cook either way; "conventionally" and with microwaves. Quite pricey, these days.

I suspect that what Bogdan saw was just two different terms used by two or more different manufacturers. Or if he was shopping online, just two different ways in which similar products were entered into a database.

    CONVICTION OVENS

Wow... I didn't even know there was such a thing as a conviction oven.

For what crimes is one sentenced to such a thing?

Stop laughing like that. This is serious. We may have an inhumane use of technology involved, here... It's one thing to discipline your cat with the microwave; but this matter of conviction ovens could be downright inhospitable.
