Windows Server 2003 / Helm - Email Server to Use?

I just acquired a web hosting box from ServerMatrix with Windows Server 2003 and Helm installed on it. I am in the process of configuring it but I am unsure what Email Server to use. All of those it seems available in the Helm list are extremely expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions or information that can help me with this? Obviously if there is a good free one out there I would prefer to use that.

    Thank you.

$400 seems to be expense for you?

If yes, go with SMTP that comes with win2k3. no other choice.

If you want webmail for SMTP solutions, check with this link www.webmailasp.net

You may use MailEnable Free version with Web Mail Scripts like UebiMiau Mail or SquirrelMail.

Where did you download Squirrelmail that runs on Windows Server 2003?

And was it easy to configure?

$125 USD for mailenable professional shouldn't be too much to pay if you're serious about hosting!

I run UebiMiau on Windows. I don't see if there any reason for squirrelmail not running on windows.

If it won't run on windows, install on linux machine on a dedicated IP and create a global A record "webmail" to point to that IP.

    I've installed uebimiau, not squirrelmail.
I've installed the XP theme too... it looks like it was integrated in HELM.
Joseph_M, I prefer uebimiau to the webmail included in the professional version of mailenable. It is not a matter of money.

This is the link to the uebimiau's homepage:

I found the XP theme at www.cyber.nu, but now it looks like it has been closed... I can send you a copy of it if you're interested.

Why would the program be "put on ice" as that site says?

Are there security problems with it?

I believe the term "put on ice" means stopped development, but the last version was 07-08-2003 :: Version 2.7.8 RC1 released, I have seen other projects with a far longer time between RC and final release. Browse the forums for secuirty issues, as I don't have a clue there I don't use the software.

    Stephen,

the problem is that every user with an hosting account on your server could install uebimiau as it doesn't need anything but PHP and a webserver...
It's (un)secure as many PHP scripts... anyway, the good point is that it simply runs in an user environment, usually not very privileged.
