Well, the main difference would be the processing power. Storage clouds are not meant for using applications on. They are basically for data storage.

    Cloud Computing = CPU's
    Cloud Storage = HDD's

You would not have "Cloud storage" without having a Cloud computing architecture. To be more precise I'd say that "Cloud storage" refers to a networking model of data storage. Data might be in a shared pool for example and to be accessible from processing nodes through high speed interconnect device (10GE or Infiniband for example).

I think more of what he is talking about is things like Amazon S3, Rackspace Cloud Files, etc. Object storage, not block devices.

Yes, cloud storage has a certain amount of processing power attached to it to run the equipment with, but it's basically a server that allows you to store your important data on a HDD or SSD within it. ADrive, for example, offers 50 GB of free storage. If you need more they charge you monthly or annually, and it's strictly cloud storage.

Hotmail, on the other hand, offers SkyDrive, in which they give you 25 GB of free storage, but Microsoft also offers you the ability to create documents, databases, and spreadsheets with Microsoft Office, all on the cloud. That's cloud computing, as is Hotmail itself, and other web based e-mail such as Yahoo.

With cloud storage, computer A can store its information on computer B over the network. There are a few reasons to use cloud storage. Some people need additional storage space because their local hard drive is out of storage space, while other people want a redundant or copy of their local system in a safe location.

    Vs.

Cloud computing takes even cloud storage one step further. For example, say computer user C needs to write a report using Microsoft Word, but it is not installed on their local computer. With cloud computing, the computer user could purchase that Microsoft Word service from another computer on their network. They would use the resources and the software of the remote computer to accomplish their task.

    Thumbs up Hi

Simply Put, Cloud Computing is a cluster of servers networked together to pool resources and share load.

And Cloud Storage is the storage you get on cloud servers.
