Oktagone run away site, denied access to admin and email

Oktagone,

Could you please allow us, or if you could make a backup of our database for the site "phoneaccessoriesaustralia.com.au"

We have not been able to access /admin our outgoing mail server or our oscommerce admin directory (passwords and login details have been changed or reset) or ftp.

As a result we have a run-away site, we can't properly process orders, we cant backup our database to move to a new host and we can't even leave a message or turn off the ordering system. We are getting flooded with orders that we can't properly process and I've had to set up another mail server to inform all the customers we can't process their orders and issue refunds. We have been doing this for over a week and its a terrible situation for us and our customers. Of course I have tried to contact oktaone continually by email and phone.

Please either fix the problems or at the very least DEACTIVATE the site and provide a backup of our database. Or at the very least just deactive the site, we are in serious trouble because we can't access anything anymore and customers are paying but we can't process their orders.

Awful Oktagone

We can still process orders now by using our own backups and emergency systems but we have heard nothing from Oktagone for months.

Moved from Providers and Network Outages and Updates to Web Hosting Forum because this doesn't sound like an outage problem.

Perhaps someone here can provide some advice.

Lois

Sorry to hear about your trouble.

Why did they change your account passwords? They just took over all of your account passwords?

If you have a backup, which I do not think you do (because oktagone is holding it hostage), move to a new host.

Best of luck, I hope you get your backup and are able to find a more reliable host

Yeah, looks like Oktagone's back from the dead. Although I don't understand why someone would sign up with a host whose website claims the ticketing system is a work in progress, and prominently features a link for old customers to 'recover' their domains.

Yes, it's been a while since we last heard about Oktagone around here. The prescient quote from the above threads is this:

Hmmm. Looks like they're not really shutting down, just kicking out all their old customers and starting again
Absolutely no surprise to me that the threadstarter is having the problems they are having, because that sounds like exactly how the 'old' Oktagone operated. I think the best thing to do would be to set up a splash page on another host explaining the situation, and change your DNS to point to it.

Despite a lack of firsthand experience with Oktagone, I think the best advice anyone can give, is if you have your domains hosted there, the sooner you get them away from Oktagone the better even if you continue to use them for hosting or other services.

Change your domains nameservers and use those of a new host. Your domain will no longer point to oktagone's servers.

If you don't have a new host, just use your registrar's default nameservers.

Everything Fixed, Everything up and Running Again

Thanks for your help we were organising what you suggested already but now Oktagone seems to be back up and running so everything is fixed and we have processed the orders and are processing orders normally.

We had backups of all our orders but it was taking us a long time to process orders and we couldn't contact customers to inform them of the delay.

But it's fixed now and everything is fine.
