PHP safe mode on or off on shared cpanel server?
Previously, it was recommended to set PHP safe mode to off on shared cPanel server due to alot of scripts won't be able to run if it is on.
Is there any changes to this? Do you guys recommend PHP safe mode to be off or on on cPanel shared server?

PHP safe_mode hasn't ever protected a server.

I see. So it is better to disable php functions on a server. Thanks!

PHP safe_mode on shared hosting will cause you a lot of troubles, angry customers and support requests. On top of everything will kill most of the functionality of your hosting customer's scripts.

Hey WebHostDog,
I agree on that. Thought they have made some favorable changes to PHP safe mode. Thanks!

For shared hosting environment, if you enable PHP safe mode then it may break some running third party PHP scripts like Drupal and erendipity of your clients. Hence, I would not recommend to turn it on on shared hosting environment. However, you can take an advantage of custom php.ini and turn it on OR off for particular account.

We should not miss the most important point.
Unless one wants to run an unsupported version, safe mode is not even available any more. It has been deprecated for the last four year and the current version does feature it at all.

I would recommend upgrading to latest version PHP, rather than using deprecated functions like safemode.
