How Long it takes Whois to Update
I want to know how long Whois records take to update. Actually I renewed my domain yesterday with the hosting company but the Whois records still shows 20 April, 2014 as expiry date.
My Host says it takes upto 72 hours for changes to reflect in Whois records. Is it really true?
I just want to point out that whois records do show a update on April 15, 2014. I checked Whois through various websites.

This depends completely on the TLD of the domain and the particular Whois site that you're using. 72hrs would be a long maximum time frame, changes will generally appear much quicker than that (5 minutes or less even). Try checking the parent whois db for the specific TLD of your domain.

Give it time possibly 72hrs like what your host suggested. Average time frame to wait for something to change on a domain is about 72 hrs sometimes it changed instantly but most times it'll milk the job and take it's time.

72 hrs seems too long
Depends on the registrar.
I have seen most of my domains get updated whois within minutes.
But some registrars possibly do it manually from backend and in that case it takes longer.

It all depends on the registrar, I know GoDaddy has instant updates.
Respectfully,
Mr. Terrence
