Can anybody tell me how to start a web hosting reseller service?
Hi I am a new member in this forum. I have been in web designing for the last two years. Now I want to start my own hosting company. Pls advice me as a start-up which server (windows / linux) should I shart with? Who are the industry best hosting service providers and how much money do I need to start up the same. My target customers are local customers...Looking forward to your valuable suggestion.

You would need a good reseller package which has limits on it. If you go for the unlimited Disk Space and Bandwidth you may find you could be cut off if you use to much (as some people have found out).
Pls advice me as a start-up which server (windows / linux)
Who are the industry best hosting service providers

how much money do I need to start up the same
Hope this helps.

It's all relative to how you wish to go abouts doing this.
Your poll options aren't very realistic. We have resellers starting with 5GB space and that is plenty to get you started.
Who are the industry best hosting service providers and how much money do I need to start up the same.
Then begin searching for hosts on those requirements, eventually narrowing it down by searching for reviews of prospective hosts as well as sending them some presales questions. Ultimately concluding to a single host that matches your requirements and has the qualities you are looking for.
Good luck

Hi noviceguy,
My advice would be to take the time to try to make a short list of about 5 providers and then email them directly. You really need to choose your provider wisely since most likely this will be your main point of contact for support issues and everything else!
The market is so over-saturated and you have resellers offering reseller accounts so take the time with the "research"
Targetting locally is a good option for getting off the ground.
There are plenty of options as far as reseller accounts go. You will find providers that offer unlimited accounts and then there are some that will offer a fee per every account added - these would be seperate accounts with their own control panel and login.
You just really need to weigh the options on whats being provided. Keep in mind though average websites still only use 100MB or less, so several hundered GIG is not necessary, even though its offered!
For a reseller account though, you really do NOT need a big $$ startup at all. It can still be done just like it was back in the day The norm is your provider supports you and then in turn you support your client. Your provider bills you and you bill your client. It can work out well.
Best of luck .... its a jungle out there!
My opinion is Linux is the preferred choice for web hosting.HostCaters.com - Quality Web Hosting - Under A Gig! - Since 1999

Your Voting poll suggest unrealistic expectations or overselling. If you have the budget go for it but honestly, I would start small and with a budget that you can manage that is not failure dependent. A business plan comes in very handy as your expenses should be less than the amount you make. Rome wasn't built in a day and your hosting will take time to grow properly so don't rush. Linux is the norm when it comes to web hosting.

Thank you all for the valuable suggestions. Before I post the thread I found one service provider whose Windows Web-hosting plans are as follows:
* 100 GB Disk Space
* 1000 GB Bandwidth
* Windows 2003, ASP.NET
* Web Site Templates
* ShopSite Shopping Cart
* FREE Google & Yahoo Credits
* 5 MySQL Databases
* Unlimited domain pointing
* Unlimited mail boxes and lots more...
For all of these they are charging 8.5 US$/month . Based on these figures I created my poll and the amount also affordable to me
Now please let me know whether I should go with this plan initially?

Looks like an unrealistic package to me, there's probably a catch somewhere.

You may give atry for sure. But I think that better visit offers section here and com[pare prices, then compare reviews. Are you designing progests which can be hosted on Win servers only. I just want you to shake, because win hosting is more expensive and not so popular as linux one. So you might have some torubles with RESELLING

If you find such reseller plan, we'd like to see it. IMO, it is impossible.

The plan is clearly overselling. (search for this term and you'll understand )
Besides, windows hosting is not as popular as linux.[ James Lee - Cloud & Web Hosting Specialist • 10+ Years WHT Veteran]

This plan is totally unrealistic. You do not need to be Einstein to understand things. If the upstream provider has a server with 2TB of storage (he has less, I am pretty sure) and he pays for it 300$ per month (that's very very low, let alone bandwith, support, labor, insurance, profit etc.) - then he will need 30+ resellers to cover the expenses. But with 30+ resellers the total storage should be 3TB....
As I read around in such cases, this company would be another scammer? They try to signup as many resellers and when the server is totally slow because of the overselling, he closes shop and run away with the money or sells the 'company'....▌ Managed.gr cloud hosting, paas, vps, dedicated, domain registration on global datacenters.

Also, to add:
- make a bit of research and choose a reputable, reliable, non overseller host. After all, it's YOUR CLIENTS and you should take care of them.▌ Managed.gr cloud hosting, paas, vps, dedicated, domain registration on global datacenters.

I would sit and study these forums for a few days. You will find plenty of great hidden information. As to pricing, compare others prices to what you were thinkning. You can also find deals. good luck to you. If you have any questions feel free to pm me. Ive recently turned a nobody webhosting company which started with a resseler prgram into something pretty big.
