DDoS attack
Hello all,
Kinda new to these forums, so ya. What would you guys recommend us do. We are being attacked by another hosting company (GoliathHosting.com) due to us noticing they were using a nulled WHMCS license. They are now full on attacking us and admitting to it, they have not been using an IP blocks either (it's their own personal IP Addresses). Here is a chat log from earlier today once the attacks started.
[9:08 PM] Visitor 33848109 has joined the chat.
[9:08 PM] Visitor 33848109: It looks like your servers are lagging
[9:08 PM] Fahim K has joined the chat.
[9:09 PM] Fahim K: Yeah, we are experiencing some malfunctioning.
[9:09 PM] Visitor 33848109: Looks more like DDoSing to me
[9:09 PM] Fahim K: Possibly.
[9:10 PM] Visitor 33848109: Definitely
[9:10 PM] Visitor 33848109: Does Ninja work for you guys?
[9:11 PM] Fahim K: May I ask why you would need that information?
[9:12 PM] Visitor 33848109: because WitherHost has been attacking some friends of mine at GoliathHosting, and they have some very valuable friends
[9:12 PM] Visitor 33848109: maybe you guys shouldnt **** with people you dont know
[9:12 PM] Fahim K: Attacking?
[9:12 PM] Fahim K: How were they 'attacking'?
[9:13 PM] Fahim K: Keep in mind, Goliath Hosting had an illegal copy of WHMCS. It is anyone's responsibility to report that.
[9:13 PM] Visitor 33848109: They were launching very small DDoS attacks while our network was unprotected
[9:14 PM] Fahim K: Do you have any proof of that?
[9:14 PM] Visitor 33848109: Your live chat admitted to it but cleared the chat history before he could take a screenshot
(No one had been on Live Chat before this, we have not been attacking them what so ever. Also odd they accuse us of DDoSing only minutes after we were attacked)
[9:15 PM] Fahim K: That is no proof.
[9:15 PM] Fahim K: And that's not possible either.
[9:15 PM] Visitor 33848109: how not?
[9:16 PM] Fahim K: We cannot 'clear' the history your seeing.
[9:16 PM] Fahim K: If it is typed, you have a copy.
[9:17 PM] Visitor 33848109: Well im just reporting back what Ive been told by three individuals, plus the sktchyness of Tyler_B, and all your kiddies attack my friends at goliath over WHMCS
[9:17 PM] Visitor 33848109: The DDoSIng will continue at greater lengths tonight, expect your server to restart
[9:19 PM] Fahim K: May I see some evidence of this 'sketchiness'
[9:19 PM] Visitor 33848109: he just is
[9:20 PM] Visitor 33848109: Also, I understand how it must be frustrating to deal with such a superior competitor but I suggest you guys stop, I dont like wasting time on my DDoS clients
[9:21 PM] Fahim K: Superior?
[9:21 PM] Visitor 33848109: indeed
[9:24 PM] Fahim K: Since when is a company, that upon being discovered of an illegal WHMCS decides to DDoS a competitor, superior? *
[9:25 PM] Visitor 33848109: GoliathHosting isnt DDoSing you
[9:25 PM] Fahim K: I'm certain it is related to GoliathHosting.
[9:26 PM] Visitor 33848109 has left.
We later discovered that this Visitor is one of the IPs that are attacking us.
Please help us here0

Years after I got out of gaming, somehow I'm not surprised to see that everyone is still DoSing each other.

Fuse Internet Access is the ISP they are using. Quite childish in my opinion, resorting to an illegal thing after being caught for using another illegal thing

If you both live in the United states and have actual proof that it's him and not just some suspicion, report him to the fbi, they have a section to report cyber crimes I believe. That, or call his ISP, report the ip along with the users name and the logs.
Might be able to request the phone number of the user too depending on who you speak to and call them directly. Usually makes them crap their pants and back down.
It's also quite possible that the user started the chat using an infected machine.
If I know a user is attacking me I always do a quick route:
Report the ip to the ISP
Look up what I can on them, most likely they have a website or have posted their names online - Give them a call
With 110% proof that it's them, call the authorities.Last edited by techjr; 03-20-2013 at 02:46 AM.

We don't have 100% proof. Although the IPs coming on the site are said to be GoliathHosting IPs, also, they admitted to it in that chat

Can someone explain the essence of DoS attacks? One may opt for this kind of attack and how to protect yourself?
