In your place I would change framework. Best will be solution 2 x 4GB. Well unless you have a 32 bit operating system. Then more than 4GB OS would'nt show in system parameters.

The machine doesn't seem to be bad, now its weakest point is the amount of RAM and you sholud start at upgrading this component.

Truth be told, you don't want anything manufactured then. You want to build it.

Manufactured PC's have a lifespan of about 2-3 years. You're lucky to get 6 out of your current one

Board + tower + memory + CPU + drives should be between $500 - $750 and your best option. Then you just have to pick up the OS (or recycle your current license, if you can)

well, if you are not a hardcore gamer then minimum configuration is quite enough for you. you can use a dual core processor and 2 gb is more than enough.

I think you need at least 4Gb RAM to build your pc

For a powerful desktop you need a i7 processor clocked at 3 ghz or higher, harddisk 1TB and ram should be 4 gb or more. processor is the 1st requirement for every pc so that should be good.

This is an old thread you guys dug up. I already purchased the new desktop quite some time ago. Ended up getting an HP and it has been working great.

PS: Photoshop wasn't killing my old machine... EVERYTHING was killing it. Even when PS wasn't running it was a nightmare (made NO difference whatsoever). It was simply far too old and only had 1 gig ram! I got rid of the old PC.

Your best Bet is always to build you own computer. But I hope your HP works out alright.
Personally i would never buy a pre build, and if i couldn't build my own i would get a technician to do so.

OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6420 @ 2.13GHz, 2133 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
    BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 5.09, 6/8/2007
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 2.00 GB

Do you think if I beefed up the ram and added 2 more gigs it would make a HUGE difference? I really don't want to waste my time and money with this computer unless I am 100% positive it would make a massive difference. I don't know what to do, I'm on a budget and not sure if I would be wasting money buying a new tower?

... or do you think I should just go ahead and buy a new desktop? I'm trying to determine what specs I need because I don't want to end up with a slug (aka my current computer) after a couple yrs. Even my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 cell phone has more RAM than my desktop!

    Thanks for any advice

PS: How long does you guys on average keep your desktop before replacing?

Don't bother trying to upgrade this machine. I would simply put together a new one. Head over to a site like NCIX or Newegg, and pick up yourself one of the combo "upgrade packs" that come with a new mobo/cpu/ram. You can use your old PSU/Case/etc, and upgrade it for under 500 bucks.

Alternatively, you can just buy a pre-built machine, but I can't make a proper recommendation as I'm not sure what you are using this computer for.
