You can make MX look just like version 4! But then I suppose I'm bias as I'm a Macromedia Certified Professional and know Dreamweaver MX inside out.

    Anyway

Sometimes I need to change and write the codes manually without using any WYSIWYG editor (I use editpad) But I think Dreamweaver has everything you need. Esp. quick editing and shaping the page.

We also keep a Win32 machine around for Adobe's ImageStyler. It's discontinued -- and had a bit of functionality merged into Photoshop (w/ ImageReady) -- but we've found it to be invaluable for creating quick artwork.

Adobe PhotoShop Elements is very good (and cheap) for anyone designing a personal website. It has most functions that you'd ever need. It's basically just a cut down version of Photoshop.

In fact some of the filters I liked so much I imported them in to the full version of Photoshop.
