What control panel fits me best

    Hey all

I've been looking around for a Control panel and hosting software for my dedicated server.
I choosing between the free once and notice there are a lot of them.
So was hoping for a little help picking

Im running Ubuntu 10.10 at the moment, not the best choice i know but thats what i got.

    Got any suggestions?
    Those i know of is:
    Kloxo
    isp-control
    gnupanel
    Virtualmin
    ISPconfig3

These i seen most talk about.
Which one should i go for?
Heard lots about Virtualmin, that free version, big difference between that and pro?

Kloxo, but you may want to change to centOS.

It works good, the UI/UX is not that great but it does the job.

Kloxo + CentOS if you really need free.

If you don't mind cheap, direct admin + CentOS

I'd say of that bunch, my vote is for Kloxo.

HOWEVER, if you can take "cheap" instead of "free", DirectAdmin is a HUGE upgrade. DA gives a very well-polished interface and is easy for just about anyone to learn.

Kloxo is a fine panel, but can have a very steep learning curve for someone non-technical (such as your customers). Even semi-technical users (such as someone who has mastered cPanel but not much else) will struggle with it at first.
The world would be a better place if people drank better coffee.

As long as you have some previous experience setting up services etc from scratch, I'd pick Webmin/Virtualmin from those anyday.

If you go with kloxo, be wary of things randomly breaking when you update! Seen a lot of that lately.

Hm ok heard a lot about kloxo and things breaking :p virtualadmin is interesting, free is enought or? And is it much manual work so to speak? How is it for the customer experience?

What about all the others I listed? Feedback on them?

Yup mostly by upgrade junkies who havent took time to read the release notes, etc...

Kloxos support for 64bit machines is still abit flakey however on 32bit machines when using a stable release everythings been known to be running fine...

Most of the problems you hear about Kloxo are either from whose who dont have a first idea or simply are upgrade junkies and yes if you dont know what your upgrading to you will break things or have configuration problems just like you have if you downgrade to EOL releases, etc

hehe ok running Centos 64bit now.
http://isp-control.net/, gnupanel and ispconfig3 not any good or?

Kloxo is too buggy on updates. Complete mess.
I'm the furthest thing from an "upgrade junky", and my whole dev VPS got hosed.

    ISP-Control is weak.
GNUPanel is crap, outdated, and apparently abandoned. (The forum is full of spam.)

    ISPConfig 3 is awesome.
    VirtualMin is awesome.

Ah ok good to know heard some about that to, people wait with upgrade but still crashes a lot

ISPConfig 3 has OpenVZ support. If using VirtualMin you would require CloudMin.

Can someone please comment further on ISPConfig 3 vs VirtualMin? Thanks.

Kloxo would be the best of all that you've listed. It is stable and user-friendly.

To answer my question about ISPConfig vs Virtualmin...

I used ISPConfig3 ~6 months ago and thought it was good.

I just installed Virtualmin a few minutes ago. It seems to have more advanced features. The bandwidth monitor, for example. There are more... I suggest you check it out.

Kloxo (lxadmin) & virtualmin/webmin in conjunction with CentOS will be much stable, than other partially cranky solutions.

I vote for Direct Admin. Probably because I can use it blindfolded. No seriously, Direct Admin just rocks. Let me tell you some truths about it:

    - Light weight. It's not a kind of Norton-antivirus control panel. It cleanly separates its own files from the system files
    - One version update per week in average
    - Responsive customer support. When you drop them an email, not only they respond, but they care
    - Easy to install (1 command)
    - From a clean server (basic OS) it automatically installs PHP, Apache, mySQL, exim, proftpd, smtpd, phmyadmin, 3 webmails... all installed and configured within 15 min.

I started using DA on 2004. Since, it is just getting better and better.
