I too have been looking for such an event, the nearest we typically get are the general IT /computer events, sadly not well represented by the hosting industry

Even if it was small and simply an annual get-together it would be an ideal opportunity to actually discuss matters face-to-face with providers
My previous network provider didn't want to meet, even though I was willing to travel all the way from Scotland

Did your previous provider give a reason for not meeting? Seems strange to me a provider not wanting to meet their customers? I am an account manager and look forward to meeting clients and discussing what projects and plans they have in their pipeline.

They did not feel there was any benefit, as our contract had already been in place for 4 years and there were no issues to discuss
All they could offer was a visit to the datacentre, they did not recommend a visit to their offices
Sufficed to say, the following year we left their services!

Good to hear that there are people interested.

Could I please get your general advice if I were to try organise a small scale gathering in London.
    • How should the event be structured?
      - Hosting providers come out and talk about unique and/or exciting features of their service?
      - Hosting users get to ask questions, voice their requirements and suggest improvements?
      - Finish with some free time for everyone to get to know each other?
    • How could the event be efficiently advertised? (apart from on WHT)
    • Do you think the organiser should cover all expenses or introduce a symbolic entry fee?

I really like the format used by DC Tech and think it would work well for a hosting meeting as well: http://www.meetup.com/DC-Tech-Meetup/events/16765073/

It's a nice mix of panels, demos, pitches, and some industry news in between.

Charge a nominal fee to get a good head count. People are much more likely to turn up if they've paid in advance, even if it's some tiny fee.

The WHIR has announced 4 European events in May of 2012. Cities include Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris and London.

These European events are like the US events the WHIR puts on each month to give people in the industry a chance to network and do business face-to-face. They're a nice compliment to the yearly HostingCon event and keep the networking going all year long.

For more info see the Europe Spring 2012 links at the top of the page here - http://www.thewhir.com/whir-events

    @rfarrell couldn't see a UK/London event on: http://www.thewhir.com/whir-events

Is there a more direct link for the UK based event we could have a look at?

There are a ton of tech/media/internet conferences in London. More than enough to compete with HostingCon

It's a conference and trade show for the web hosting/hosted services industry.

    Hi,

I would like to see a hosting con, here in the UK.

I don't think internet world is a very good show any more, think this year will be the last I go to.

I think it might be worth seeing if it could be tagged on to infosec, which is a great show. Would also cover off some of the other hosting issues, i.e security, networking, anti-spam solutions etc.

Perhaps have it as an evening networking event to the main show, I guess most hosting providers make an effort to go there...

    My 2ps worth!

    Michael

  17. Any more on this?

I'd be interested in attending kind of uk hosting event if it was in London.

There is a data centre world event 29 Feb - 1 March 2012 (In London). Might be worth seeing if there is enough interest to add a Web hosting event on the side. I will certainly be going to evaluate my DC suppliers for my dedicated kit....

Would post the URL, but haven't done enough posts!

HostingCon should definitely consider some international locations.
Webuzo - Multi user control panel supporting Apache, NGinx, MySQL, MariaDB, Percona, LiteSpeed, Varnish, WordPress, etc.
Virtualizor - VPS Control Panel supporting OpenVZ, Xen, KVM and has 200+ OS Templates
Softaculous - Auto Installer with 400+ scripts for Webuzo, cPanel, DirectAdmin, InterWorx, Plesk, etc.
