My experience with Knownhost support
I would just like to leave a review here about my experiences so far with Knownhost support. They say this hosting company is one of the few "best" in this field but as their 3-yr customer I can't say they are indeed one AT ALL.
These are the tech support operators that you must watch out, if they at all use these names as their own truly or they just randomly select alias, I don't know: William L., Unni K.
These two guys make the best example why top businesses like Knownhost suddenly becomes CRAPPY! When you employ people who don't have the slightest idea what they are doing, that is. If I can type in big caps here I would just to express my disappointment with Knownhost support.
There were a lot more operators I encountered since I used Knownhost but recently, these two guys above made me SO ANGRY I had to leave a review here. If you guys can only read our exchange of messages in my ticket, you'd be so DISAPPOINTED! I mean, why would you ask the client and make him confirm the fact, when it's almost over 24 hours passed (we urgently needed the request done), that importing the database would delete the old one? Why would you ask that and make the client reply and confirm first before he can actually import it? WHY THE F***??? I mean, am I that too dumb to open a ticket and request something that I don't really know? A fact as simple as importing the database would delete the old one? Besides, I already confirmed about it twice or three times before he asked me to confirm again. And the operator knew I would be gone 10 hours and that the request is ASAP. What makes him think that I did not know about that simple effing thing? Gosh, this is so infuriating!!!
My websites generates at least $2,000 daily this is why it has become too infuriating enough to post a review about them!
I hope someone in their department would see this review so they can take action and put their operators in more training.
Knownhost, we are doing a very impt business here AND SO DO YOU!!!Last edited by Postbox; 04-17-2014 at 11:51 AM.

If your websites generate $2000 daily you should have your own technical staff, or possibly go with rackspace. It really just sounds like your needs and their target market are at odds. Isn't knownhost known for having affordable managed vps's? For something in that price range, you don't get the same effect as having dedicated staff, sorry.

At 2k revenue/income per day you should think of hiring your own staff for critical tasks and to have a contingency plan in place. These silly rants make people like you look highly ridiculous and/or incredible.

1. If you are bringing in $60k+ a month from the server, then stop being a tight bum and hire your own server admin.
2. Having said that, nothing wrong with the provider wanting to confirm that you still want to proceed given the task will delete your old database.
If that is all you are pissed about, then you need to take a chill pill and go back and read point 1.█ SERVSTRA | THE ENTERPRISE CLOUD SERVER & DEDICATED SERVER SPECIALISTS

I think they are just doesn't have the courage to import the database over the old one which will be deleted, I think they just need to be sure a hundred percent before they do something very critical like that.
you know what you asked for, but sometimes the clients not know what will be happen with the old database. and also if the client don't know what he asked for and the old database deleted he will come here at the forum and complains that his important data lost.Web Developer

Unfortunately, this is the result of many customers who actually don't know what they are asking for, so things that would result in data deletion must be expressly confirmed.
We've had customers request changing their server OS from CentOS to Windows but without losing any data on their single partition single hard drive. There are dozens of customers who assume that we backup their entire single hard drive daily and are shocked when their hard drive fails and they have no backups.
There are simply too many, TOO many, dedicated server customers who don't really know what they are doing. So even if you do, providers have to assume you don't, just to be on the safe side. This was simply done for the other 9 out of 10 times when the customer would have responded with: "What?? My old database is gone??? Restore it now please to the backup from 7 weeks ago when my database was the coolest. Thank you."TailorMadeServers.Com - Dallas Dedicated Servers since 2003

I agree with most of people in this thread - if replacing the database was so important to you, either hire help or ask someone to cover for you when going away for 10 hours. I totally understand the need from KnownHost's side to be absolutely sure before they delete customer data. You should hire help instead when having crucial replacement or update situations.

It looks like all of Knownhost services are fully managed so they should be able to take care of your issues.
@OP do you have a VPS or dedicated server with Knownhost?

Cassie,
First, I can assure you our technicians are real and we do not use fake names. We take pride in our employees and feel there is no need to hide who they are.
I did find your ticket and reviewed over it, there was a lot of back and forth confusion in this particular ticket, including several times where you simply requested a copy of the database, or wished for a download link.
We have to be very careful when it comes to a customers data. If there is even a shred of doubt we would rather our technicians be cautious and confirm than to inadvertently delete something and have to deal with that. I'm aware your site has had some serious growing pains which is why we have been working to get you fully on your dedicated server to handle your traffic. We even heavily discounted that dedicated server for you to make the move easier.
I do apologize that you are unhappy with our cautious nature, but I would much rather see a thread like this, than a thread where someone complains about lost data.KnownHost Managed Services Specialists

If your gross earnings are $60k a month, you can easily hire linux expert. I agree with Daniel, its better to wait for final confirmation than deleting existing data. At least it proves KH really cares for clients data and information.

^^^ agreed! This could have been a flip sided story. Techs aren't mind readers. I guess the OPs main concern is the long delay before they reached out to confirm the delete, as he wanted it done 'ASAP'??
