Supermicro X3430 on a X7SPA-HF. It will use around 1A each.

What type of processor are you looking at using?

40amp means 32amp allowed maximally. also means 0.8amp (96 watt) per server.

in order to meet your required density, your best bet is Xeon L3426 (quad 1.86G cores w/HT, low-power 45watt TDP) on supermicro X8SIL-F board.

Look for a server with high efficiency (or 80Plus certified) power supplies. Can save you about 15% on your power usage right there.

What price range are you looking to spend as this is not going to be cheap?

I agree completely on the config, you'll need the low power to get under 0.8A, and even then you're probably cutting it close with 8-16GB of RAM. Get one of the Supermicro chassis with an 80 Plus PSU and you should be set, and it seems most of the newer ones are 80 Plus certified.

What about your switch and router/firewall? 40 servers @ 32 amps is already cutting it close. Most switches take around 1 amp. Firewalls/routers should take at least that.

In any monitored DC you will have the 80% usage rule to adhere to. So 40Amp 120V power circuits (2 x 20Amp) is only going to provide you with 32Amps of usable power in the cab... So fitting 40 servers is going to require at least, minimum of 60Amps of 120V IF you can even find servers that use only 1Amp each for the apps you want to run.

Agreed. Two 30 amp circuits would probably be best. APC makes some good PDUs that would work on a 30 amp circuit.
