Not sure this is in the right section, but you would need a developer who can code...

Out of curiosity, why do you want to create such a site if others already exist?

    Hello,
There are actually tons of pre-made/open source scripts on http://HotScripts.com, you may also want to take a look there to get you started

1.) (optional) a script as base, like this one: https://github.com/valums/ajax-upload or pick one here: http://www.hotscripts.com/category/s...pload-systems/

2.) If your project should be more professional, forget about step 1 and look for a PHP (and maybe Perl/Python) coder and let him develop a custom script and design

3.) A system administrator, who can manage your servers etc.

4.) A dedicated server with 2TB+ of space and RAID-10 (although you can start smaller, with a VPS or something)

5.) Some money for advertising, in case the project should be commercial

I've not used an image upload script myself yet, just try the first one I've posted and see if you like it. If not, try another one, etc.

You can open a topic here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=146 asking for someone to code/customize the script for you. Another possibility would be creating a new project on freelancer.com

All of the above together, plus Ajax/jQuery and MySQL for user/account management. So: HTML, JS, PHP, jQuery, Ajax, MySQL. You could just state that you want a "Photobucket clone" coded on either freelancer.com or in the appropiate section in this forum, this will help people to get your idea.

As I said, you can start with a small virtual server. It all depends on how fast your website will get popular. A good solution would be to start with a small cloud appliance (like 1GB RAM and 50GB HDD http://www.rackspace.com/cloud/cloud...ducts/servers/ there are also other good providers out there of course) and then expand it's resources, as soon as the load is too high, or the HDD gets full.

As far as existing scripts go Coppermine is the only thing that comes to mind that might be sort of like that.

But really the basic functionality of those sites is quite simple to do, if you don't know how to program you could easily find some LAMP programmer who could put this together for you in a weekend or two. (I think WHT even has a board where you could find somebody.)

I'd say your main problems would be:

1.) If your service gets popular, scaling these things out gets to be quite a bit more than just a weekend job.

2.) PhotoBucket and ImageShack have such a strong grip on the user base for something like this, unless you have a very specific service in mind that doesn't directly compete with them for the masses, you'd really need to think about why people would choose your service and how they're going to find out about it.
