Text Editor?
We're having a little discussion on WHT-IRC about which texteditor and why, please, enlighten me to which one you use, and why
I personally use pico just because it's quick, lightweight and simple as hell (plus I can easily instruct my clients through it)Matt D.

hahahaha . . . As of this post, emacs has zero votes.
I was turned off by emacs ten years ago when I first tried to run it on a pentium 66 with 16MB of ram. At the time, that was a nice pc, but it ran emacs like crap. When I want to edit text, I want a text editor not an operating system.

Out of the list, I chose vi. However, I do quite like the editor built into Midnight Commander, which I do use from time to time. But mostly I use vi.
As for when I'm in Windows, I use EditPlus. Fantastic editor - all you could ever want. It even makes coffee for you

I've never really got on with large over-the-top text editors. I am more drawn to the quick loading, simplistic programs.
I used to use Notepad all the time, but have recently upgraded to Win32Pad which is basically Notepad with extras.

vi > *
seriously, if you're using something like pico or nano now, just read a bit of the documentation and use vi, you won't ever go back. pico/nano just suck in comparison.
i know this is a bit off topic, but under a windows environment, i also like EditPlus.

I use pico all the time. However, I would just downright refuse nano. If I had to choose between nano and vi, it's vi I go.
I choose pico mainly for the ease. However, if I don't get pico, it's vi I go. However, often, I would use vi only if it's not the real thing, but vim, which the --INSERT-- stuff.
As for Windows... umm... I don't use Windows. I'm a full-fledged Linux user.Mark Lu

I use pico usually, however if I have to debug an error code and have to find a specific line, I use "ee".

joe is quick , nice and easy. It cannot make coffee which some other editors are trying to do, but it does everything editor should be able to do. For larger PHP projects I use Quanta, but that is much more then text editor.
