Question Is register.com a good hosting service?

My client is already signed up with them, but only has a "coming soon" home page.

What do you mean? Your client signed up for hosting?
Your client needs to upload his pages and remove the default index page to see his pages.

He purchased a domain name with register.com. I helped him put his logo on a web page, and that's basically all that is there right now. I just wanted to know if register.com is a good hosting company or not.
The one page is hosted there right now, but he's about to have his sight developed and wanted to know of a good host, or if he should leave it at
    register.com.

i haven’t tried them, but have you tried to search the forum for reviews on them? Most people wouldn’t go with big domain registers, due to there slow support

Personally, I wouldn't go with a registrar for hosting my sites.
You will be able to find a ton of good quality hosts if you have a quick search.
By the way what are your requirements? How much disk space and BW do you need?

No. $14.95 a month is extremely expensive for a basic package with those features. You can do much better for that price. I will echo the posts above. In my experience, the big name registrars rarely make good hosts. I wouldn't use them as a registrar either. Why pay twice as much for a domain name?

Has anyone seen Register.com's deal for a free 1-year domain name? I've seen it advertised at this address http://www.register.com/promo/acquisitions_lp_1.rcmx and http://www.register.com/tv and I'm wondering if this a good deal. I've read on some deal sites that people are using it to get a name and then transfer to a registrar of choice to basically get two years for the price of one.

You often can't transfer free domains, as you don't own them: the company that purchased them does.

    I would proceed with caution
Like many other registrars, they are now offering hosting services. You could search the forum using the search tool above for them and see if there is anymore feedback about their hosting services.
Anytime though a free domain reg. is offered you'd better read the fine print as you may be unable to transfer the domain to another registrar.
I agree with Matt above and try to let people know use the "registrar" for registration only and then choose a host seperately.

I personally have never heard of register.com's hosting package. I know that they are rather expensive.
