change reseller hosting provider

CAn anyone here help me, as I 'd like to change hosting provider from cpanel to cpanel? I need step by step instruction, from download backups, changing NS and ips of my own nameserver, changing domains ips etc. How long to wait etc. I cannot have downtime. Thank you very much guys!

Moving cpanel to cpanel should go pretty easy. Ask your new host if they can move your sites using whm's transfer function.

When that is done, you should test all domains by going to ipaddress/~username and confirm there are no errors.

You should then be able to go to your old whm and edit dns zone. What you should do here is change the A record on the old server to point to the new ip address of the account.

That should resolve all sites to the new server within about 30 minutes. Once this is confirmed, update your personal nameservers with the new ip's and they will update over time.

I am sure there are other ways, but this has worked very well for us.

That should still work if your new host will copy the accounts over from whm.

The WHM account copy feature copies MySQL databases, usernames, and passwords.

I have used the WHM copy account functionality in the past (better: my web host did it for me) and it worked just fine. He moved my reseller account from one server to another and things were just fine.

Your best option is to get your new Host to assist in the transfer of all your clients to come under your new reseller account on the server. As a reseller, you have limited features and only with the (root)WHM can you do a proper transfer, some examples are the domain(s), account, DNS, files being transfered will need to be modified and ownership passed back to the reseller and using the (root)WHM most things are simplified and easy on the Host to do the transfer for you instead of you doing it on your own where eventually you will still need your Host to set some thing right for the transfered domains/websites to work on the new server.

Regards.

caactus: What if my previous host do transfer the sites with all data? Is this enough to give them my new reseller account data. Or it is needed in both sides root access?

Usually as a reseller you don't have root password to the server which I doubt the losing Host would assist you. In this case you can provide your present Host the usernames and passwords of the domains to transfer and perhaps it have to be done manually(Do a HOME BACKUP) which should be no problem for your present Host to assist you.

As noted, if your previous Host is willing to help, then it would not be a problem. Contact your PRESENT Host and ask them what they need for the transfer of all your clients files(Usually they will Tar up/Zip all your reseller clients data and files for transfer) and pass on to you new Host where you new Host will do the neccessary DNS settings, etc.

Regards

Sunshines if your new host is somewhat service minded then they will most likely help you with moving your Cpanel to its new home. They will need IP, username and password to the accounts you want transfered and then it is just a matter of time to copy them to their new home.

This thread may shed some light on your dilemma, but with a good host you should have no problem with this. If you do get into trouble there are other providers that may give you better service and support.

Anyway, good luck with your reseller business and your new host

Make sure your new host helps. Don't even bother with moving all the accounts at once, I don't think many hosts would be willing to give away their root passwords. All they need is the IP and the domain/username/pass of each account.

just to confirm, when your new host moves your account from the old host, everything is going to be transferred (including email accounts and MySQL databases).

Your new host just needs your username and password for each account as well as your ftp address, then it takes a minute or two to get each site transferred.
