HE in the news

This might be interesting to anyone considering Hurricane Electric as a provider.

http://news.com.com/2100-1025-991624...g=fd_lede1_hed

It seems that not only did they not attempt to protect their customers, they seemed to have proactively undermined them by deleting the contents of the server without first even attempting to notify the alleged offenders.

I bet the webhost is ready to pack-up and leave HE. If not, bet the client will.

Read the entire article, they deleted the entire site.

They actually suffered from lost data from the backup being a bit old.

So who are they really looking out for? Who pays the bills around there?

I just read this and I must say...

1. How could HE delete their site? Did they actually go into the server themselves and delete their files? Isn't that illegal?

2. I will never use HE, ever.

Unless the FBI(or MS in this case) comes after you, there's really no worry in your site being shut down if your not doing anything illegal.

Regardless, it would have been shut down if it were any other provider be it Nocster, RackShack, or even Verio.

Sure they should notify the people responisble for the alledged site, but the site would still be shut down in any case.

Whoa, what HE did was pretty rediculous.

Edit: It turns out it wasn't HE that deleted the site.

If I were Neowin, I would sue HE. Seriously...

I don't know how it would go, but still. That is very ridiculous.

Indeed it was, but they were asked by MS.

I ain't defending HE.net and their actions, but I'm just saying that unless you have an illegal website, I don't see why it would be a problem hosting with HE.net.

Read again. They deleted everything. The site lost a month of content as their backup isn't current.

Read again. It was due to a forum post It's just like if someone posted a MS link on here, and Rackshack deleted everything without checking (not likely at all, but just to give an extreme example)
