    Is my host lying?

I recently noticed "cat /proc/cpuinfo" said I was getting 850Mhz per core, which is below the advertised frequency, a few days later they replied with this:

I looked about on the internet and found some information which contradicted what the host has said.

I don't know if I would say they're lying, I won't get into that. But I will show you an example of a Dual Hex E5 that runs @ 2.20Ghz

    model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2430 0 @ 2.20GHz
    stepping : 7
    cpu MHz : 2199.869

    Hope this helps

It looks like you may be limited to 850 MHz. Try stressing the server and then run cat /proc/cpuinfo. There is a possibility that it auto throttles the CPU frequency when it's not being used.

I made the avg load go to about 2.3, but the frequency didn't change.

In that case you are probably limited to only 850 MHz. How much CPU frequency did your host guarantee you?

    They probably put some limit.

How much you are paying with the VPS? If it is super cheap, then do not complain :-) or pay more for a better platform vps.

Yeah, something is not right then. You only get 1 core at 850 MHz. If you would have 4 cores you should see this:

    Code:
    model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1240 V2 @ 3.40GHz
    cpu MHz : 3400

    model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1240 V2 @ 3.40GHz

Who is the host if you don't mind me asking? Also how much are you paying for the VPS?

The host is http://vpsnodes.com/ . The VPS only costs $5 month.

I do get 4 cores just not at 3.4Ghz

I'm looking at their website and I can't find anything about how much CPU power they guarantee. Also for $5.00 you can't really expect to get 100% of 4 cores. That's the entire Intel Xeon E3-1270 server

Their VPS plans seem to be equal share usage where the CPU frequency is evenly distributed across the VPS machines.

The CPU allocation is stated on their WHMCS products page. I don't mind to much as it's only $5, but I would prefer the host to be honest.

It is written "1 CPU Core" on their WHMCS cart for the $5 plan.

I have double checked and they really do advertise 4 CPU Core / 100% on the $5.00 per month VPS. It's on the Xmas Promo VPS thought. It could be a spelling error or they offer the 4 cores on a fair share usage.

I think it's most likely a mistake on their part. Obviously it's not 100% and if it was it wouldn't be $5/month

    $5 a month!
I'm sorry but for that price you are getting a lot already.
I pay €32(yes euros!) a month for this:

model name : QEMU Virtual CPU version 1.2.0
    stepping : 3
    cpu MHz : 1994.999

Though for the content of my site only very few hosting are whiling to work with me.

They probably have the ondemand CPU frequency scaling compiled into the kernel. Doesn't SolusVM do this by default during setup? Can't recall any more... It's fixable though, if the provider's truly unaware of this.
