    URL forwarding vs. 301 Redirect

    is there any difference between the URL forwarding and the 301 redirect?

    From an SEO perspective a 301 redirect is better. Google will recognize it as a permanent redirect to the target page.

    i think this is done at the registrar in the domain control panel, correct? the only optin is there is forwarding. there is no specific types, how do i make the forwarding permenant ?

    You better be careful with the 301's because they get cached within the browsers. One "wrong move" and your visitors will have to manually clear the cache to resolve the problem.

    And yes, from SEO's perspective 301 is better.

    I already know that 301 redirect is better for SEO But what exactly is the difference? in both cases when the website visitor type the URL he will get immeditly redirected to the other URL, so where is the difference?

    i suppose if it was done correctly it would be the same, though you have to be sure that the 301 is being passed in the header, ie

    HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
    Location: http://www.example.org/
    Content-Type: text/html
    Content-Length: 174

    Without that, its not a good redirect for SEO
