    WordPress and SEO

    Hi,

I wanted to get some input as to how SEO friendly WordPress is, since I think I've settled onto this for the CMS for my ecommerce site.

    Thanks!

Don't be mislead - when SEO is concerned, WordPress is as friendly as it gets. I would even go a step beyond and say that they are even born for each other

As part of our services, we have played around a lot with WordPress and I can tell you that it is surprisingly easy to control and shape as per your SEO needs. There are a lot of free plugins that can help you along the way but I will recommend to do your research first so you can choose the one best for you. Even before you do that, you still have in-built SEO capabilities to give you the basics. If you get too lost in all the choices, you can try the "All In One SEO Pack" as one of the most renowned and complimented plugins.

What's more is WP's flexibility. You can easily build and shape your site architecture so it meets the demand of search engines. The keyword and tag optimization is user friendly and to top it all off, creating SEF permalinks is as easy as enjoying a cocktail on the beach

As far as ecommerse goes, WordPress is also prepared to meet your demands with a vast choice of e-shop plugins and widgets, so you definitely have the option to play around. My advice would be to go for it and if you are interested in a knowledgeable host for it, you can check my signature

No elvis, I really don't think so. There was a question about WordPress, which I tried to cover with as much details as needed and offered various solutions for each additional queries that might occur. As we are specialists in WordPress Hosting, I don't see why I shouldn't mention it, as I can compare our capabilities with the real needs of the customer. I'm not just going through topics, flooding the comments with one-line promotions. You can also check all my other forum posts and see that I always try to give constructive responses, often very detailed, and help the fellow forumers in their time of need

There are also some things to consider to make Wordpress SEO-friendly. One is to add authorship from Google.

    For starters, ....

Wordpress is a pretty good CMS in terms of SEO. That said, you need to keep in mind that it holds true only if you install and properly configure all the required plugins and widgets. If you have not done any Wordpress SEO before, here's what you need to start from:

    1. Install the Wordpress SEO by Yoast plugin. It has a whole lot of features that cover most of the features that you'll need on your site for proper SEO. Among other things, you'll also be able to enable Google authorship which seems to become a pretty influential ranking method down the road. At this point, it just gives you a boost in conversation rates because people tend to click snippets with portraits next to them.

    2. Next, be sure that your robots.txt is configured as the book says. Failing to do so can result in being invisible to Google. Note: Don't try to find your robots.txt file on your FTP server. Thing is, Wordpress creates a dynamic (on the fly) robots.txt file every time a user visits your site. You can actually install the WP Robots.txt plugin that allows you to edit your robots.txt file right from the comfort of your Wordpress dashboard.

    3. Having taken care of your robots.txt file, you need to connect your site to both Google Analytics and Google webmaster Tools because it allows you to see how Google sees your site, if you have crucial issues to fix and what content is the most popular on your site.

    4. Also, you may want to use an XML sitemap on your site. This functionality comes built-in your Wordpress SEO by Yoast plugin copy. So, you just need to enable it. Just go to your Wordpress dashboard, expand the SEO drop-down menu and select XML sitemaps. Now you just need to tick the 'Check this box to enable XML sitemap functionality' and you're pretty much good to go.

    5. Another super crucial thing is to enable user friendly URLs. It'll make your site easier to use both for people and search engines. In your Wordpress admin panel, go to "Settings -> Permalinks and be sure to select the 'Post name' option. It works in most cases.

    6. And last but not least. Google is paying more attention to Schema.org now because it helps search engines to easier figure out what is what on your site. Since you want to make Google happy with your site, you need to play by the rules it sets, you may want to install a Schema.org Wordpress plugin so that you can provide search engines with more precise data about your site content.

Let me know if you have any questions or would like me to cover one of the above-mentioned aspects in more detail.

Google is geared to read WP so its good to go as far as seo. But it takes onpage and offpage work to get ranked.
