Wholesale IAX trunk provider

We just recently got hit with a large increase in the IAX origination/termination fees on our corporate IAX trunk. Looking for alternatives that can handle up to 20 concurrent calls, billed per-minute without insane monthly fees. Also needs to have peers in the WDC/NJ/NYC area.

I think you're gonna have a tough time finding an IAX provider, now that VoipJet closed.

Is there a reason you want to use IAX? With SIP you can run the media stream directly between you and the RTP gateway. For example, our SIP proxies are on the west coast, but for wholesale east coast clients (i.e. not behind NAT) the media runs between them the east cost POP.

SIP is fine I just prefer IAX if possible. This is for origination, mainly.

voip.ms do SIP and IAX2 with servers on the east coast. Not sure if you can get 20 channels on inbound.

I think you'll struggle... The reason for IAX2 being such a less preferred format (even though most operators can provide it) as its not very processor efficient... i.e it can't work on multicore in the sense even if you have a quad/oct core machine... It will only run on the single core.. not 4 or 8 of them respectively.

For a time, we had a few wholesale client interconnect with us on IAX and it was a) causing us to much processing problems and additionally we found that IAX does not always send the hangup code.... i.e meaning the client would get billed for calls which cut off alot longer after the call actually finished.... Granted it was 1 call in every 50,000 or call... But this was starting to cause problems at this rate.

Ask providers if they can send the call onto via the IAX2 Protocal... Although most may not offer this feature... they still may be able to do it if you contact them directly.
