I would love to see this feature on WebHostingTalk,
Where you can search either a business or a name in a search box and it searches the WebHostingTalk Blacklist.

Moderators can add sites and names to the Blacklist when they ban or find out from loads of people or Premium / Corporate members could assist them.

The problem is how to decide who goes on the list. There are some true scams that occur, but a lot of such stuff is people moaning about reality being different that what was expected, or don't really understand what "unmanaged" or "you are responsible for your own backups" really means. Because well over 50% of members here have a commercial interest in the hosting industry it would be very hard to administer a blacklist withour perceived conflict of interest.

Not to mention that WHT's staff includes active hosts and providers... it'd be rather difficult to maintain an unbiased list.

If a Hosting provider does not answer to Support Ticket then do they go to black list(if OP's idea goes on & WHT start blacklisting )?

Actually there is a blacklist, but you have to do something extremely horrendous to get on it. Your company name would show up as *************

(example only no name was typed in )

Umm maybe use the search function and if the results come back as *********** in bold then they're on the blacklist?

That would certainly work. But, truth be told, most censored words are censored because of SPAM. Sometimes it's the only way to stop someone from spamming their name all over the forum. We only use it as a "last resort" kinda thing. Because we'd much rather people be able to talk about spammers and scammers.

Right. We're always careful about that "perception". It doesn't matter if bias exists or not, if there's a perception of bias, it's the same to the reader as bias.

I'd say it's more difficult to find moderators on a web hosting forum that are fully disconnected from any piece of the web hosting industry. That's a perceived bias we're never going to get rid of.

But I can tell you that if we notice a HINT of bias from any moderator, there would be no discussion, we would need to find a different moderator.

But to touch on your first "sentence", there may be 1 or 2 moderators that are actively hosting. It's rare that we'd bring on a member that is actively hosting or providing. But if they've demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that they hold no biases towards hosting entities, I don't see a reason to exclude them.

Aren't all staff members bias (whether positively or negatively doesn't matter) towards some members? I could understand if they were working to suspend and harm competition and thus be suspended, but to be bias towards people based on past dealings is only natural.

Aren't all persons biased? We can't help it. Humans simply are. Some are even biased against WHT moderators. Surprise!

Of course, that doesn't mean we act on those biases.

Didn't see your reply until I got an email about a radio... Of course, everyone is bias, that's what I'm saying. Most people can make it seem like they separate them, but very few actually can.
