    Drop your phone a lot?

I tend to drop my phone on a regular basis. Sometimes I'll sit my phone on my lap when I'm driving and when I get out of my car it drops to the ground. Last month I managed to drop my Droid X on gravel which cracked the screen. I ordered an iPhone this morning and I'm buying a good case this time. Do you have problems keeping your phone safe?

I'd like to think of myself as being pretty good with my electronic devices. However, I do the same thing frequently. Set my phone on my lap and then get out of the car. Is there anyone who doesn't do this?

I've dropped my iPhones over the years a few times as high as from 10 feet with a good amount of energy and as short as just a couple of feet. Only once did one of them quit working - and it was the digitizer for the touch screen. The display worked and the glass wasn't broken but half of the screen wouldn't respond to touch...

I went to Apple and told them what happened and expected to have to pay for a new phone but they swapped me out a new one free.

I want to buy a Ballistic case but they haven't developed a case for the white iPhone yet. It's supposed to be as good or better than the Otterbox.

Personally I don't like big bulky cases. I have an InCase Snap on my phone, it does the job well enough but keeps the phone slim. I have dropped it once or twice where it chipped off some of the case but the phone was left in pristine condition.

I would rather have a slim case but if it means more protection then I'm fine with a bulky phone.

At my age I spend quite a bit of time in The Comfy Chair, which is also a recliner. Sometimes my phone will slip out of my pocket, slide through The Comfy Chair, and land on the imitation wood-like man made pressed chipboard product floor. I think it usually does not fall far enough to get up to a good speed.

I have a snap on case too, mine is by Case Mate, I like it.

I'm afraid my iPhone will suffer a fatal drop before my case arrives.

Apple is known for replacing phones without questions asked. Other brands would repair the phone.

But I don't understand how it makes business sense for Apple to replace phones that were the fault of the owner.

I have a body glove case for my Android to protect it a little when I throw it in my purse but I don't think I have ever dropped it. Although I just got it last December

My son on the other hand drops his Blackberry all the time! I am amazed how sturdy it is. I have bought him a case but it never seems to be on it... but I keep insurance on his phone for that reason

Because they simply refurbish the phone that was swapped out and re-sell it or use it as a replacement for other phones. Essentially they do repair the phone, they just don't make you wait while it's repaired as they give you a new (previously repaired) phone.

When they swapped my phone out that I broke, they didn't give me a brand new one - they gave me a refurbished one. I can only assume that something happened to it before I got it and that it was fixed. It worked well for the next year so I can't complain.

The insurance I bought for the iPhone costs $10.00/mo and there is a $130 deductible for a claim but they will send me a new iPhone. I hate the thought of having a re-certified phone.

That's quite a bit... $130 + $10/mo for how ever long you pay for it to replace your phone. I'd sooner just shell out the cash and buy a new one straight up if I broke it than pay monthly for insurance when I may or may not ever use it - and then if I do use it I'm paying $130.

I agree... There was a third party insurance provider for iPhones (forget the name) that was something like $5/month with $25 or $50 replacement. I can't remember who it was though to save my life...

My vote goes for an OtterBox. The cases are definitely top notch. I've used them on all my phones lately.

A bit random. But what happen to you joining the Mil?

Yes, but when you get a replacement it'll be re-certified.

I decided not to enlist right now. I'm in the process of becoming an EMT.

The $50 deductible is fine if you don't mind re-certified phones. I just wouldn't prefer it.

I drop my phone about 5 times per day. I don't think it's too much, as my girlfriend drops her phone about 100 times per day.

Even I drop my phones a lot. That is why it helps to get a Nokia mobile here (in India, where prices do matter and Nokia phones are the sturdiest).

I drop my phone all the time. I have AT&T and my blackberry has been going white (apparently there are sensors in the screen and if you drop it they can break). Everytime someone calls me it goes white... Went to AT&T (My upgrade starts Sept 1) and asked what they could do to help me...told me they'd charge me $450 for an iPhone 4. I walked out of there wanting to sign up at Verizon.
