Hosting for a dating site
Hello!
I look for a hosting for my dating site. It has 0 users so far so i need something small and an option to expand. The site is designed for USA users only. It's written in php and mysql. My budget is around $40-$50/m.
Sorry for my poor english. Thanks in advance!Last edited by Firemaker; 06-15-2011 at 04:27 PM.

Any shared host will be fine as you start off. Pick one that has good reviews.

Have you tried WeinerHost?

Check out the offers section. With that budget you'd even be able to start off with a decent VPS which will give you plenty of initial scaling capacity.

Say what now? Is that an actual host?
OP, I would follow nerdie's advice, unless your dating site have specific needs/requirements that only a VPS environment could provide.
Absolutely no reason to jump straight to a VPS if you have no need for one. Just because your budget is $40, doesn't mean you have to spend that amount for your needs.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone actually picks that up and uses it to start a hosting business -- given some of the names I've seen recently.

Weinerhost, that is quite funny but who'd buy that for a hosting service. No wait, you would actually be surprised
There are a lot of services out there, though @OP is this dating site going to allow in a sense "pornographic material" or is it more strict on actually keeping it pat down to an actual secure, smooth, elegant, dating service? Definitely checkout the advertising section. Just make sure you find a host that allows adult content! Even though your site may not explicitly offer adult content, it can be perceived as one. Just go on the safe side.

You can try out any shared hosting to start with. But I suggest you choose from the popular ones for safe. Once your website grows and shared hosting no longer suitable, you can go with a VPS server for your budget.

Start from a reliable shared hosting.
That will be fine for you.

Dating web sites tend to grow very fast. So at the very beginning I suppose that would be really nice to start with the VPS and you have right budget for the good VPS.

If you have that amount in your budget, I would agree, you might want to invest in a VPS especially if the dating site takes off. If you want to cut down on costs for now even more, I would suggest just going the simple route and go with any shared hosting account with any reliable host that fits your needs.

How many users are you expecting in the first month?
Maybe a VPS is a bit overkill, unless your doing some serious advertising I am sure some quality shared hosting will be fine.
