Xen VS OpenVZ
Which virtualization software is better?
I am thinking of just buying a dedicated server instead of having multiple VPS nodes(currently with HostEurope, Hetzner and LeaseWeb).
I can save money if i buy a dedicated server and run Xen or OpenVZ on it.
What do you guys think? Is this a good idea? Which one do you use or will you use.
This is for personal use and not for web hosting, so i do not have any customers to care about.Superb Houston/Los Angeles Colocation: LAYERHOST.COM https://www.layerhost.com/colocation

OpenVZ is a little lighter weight but offers less isolation plus it can not install Windows.
Xen is a little heavier but provides better isolation between vps's and also allows for you to load Windows.
If this is for personal and you don't need windows then OpenVZ would be fine.

You could load HyperVM to manage the server with.. Its free and does the job .
You can find it here along with Kloxo. Its their free control panel.

Yes i have heard about HyperVM and Kloxo actually. I don't really like the GUI of HyperVM.
What do you think about this http://virt-manager.et.redhat.com/?
Also other open source alternative to HyperVM? What about paid?

To me, it comes down to the host more than the technology. You can have a poor xen experience and a poor OpenVZ experience.

+1 Citrix Xen. The xen center is really good.

For paid panels SolusVM gets my vote. But there is also virtualizor.com its pretty decent.
That virt-manager will certainly do the job since you are using it for your own vm's and not trying to sell to anyone else.

Xen can't better OpenVZ and OpenVZ can't better Xen
If you only use Linux, choose OpenVZ, or not choose Xen
