Non raised screws (for R310 drive bays)..

    Hi all,

So, I had an interesting problem when trying to use normal hard drive screws with an R310 bay. Because the heads of the screws were slightly raised (by maybe a few mm), it meant the bay wouldn't fit into the hole. The only way to make it fit, was to use 'flat' headed screws (i.e. ones with no raise on the head). Finding these have been a nightmare.. I ended up dragging myself down to the local backstreet computer repair shops (on a late saturday afternoon), and spent half an hour searching through their 'bowl of spare screws' for the right ones.. Managed to find like 20 of them in the end..

Cut a long story short, does anyone know where I can buy these types of non raised screws from (and their proper name??)

(screw on the left is the head I need, and screw on the right is the thread I need - so a mixture of these two screws.. )

    Thanks!

    Cal

Your image does not work. I assume they are like the ones for the SuperMicro drive trays where they really do not have a head on them. I have found some at Fastenal before, but mostly searching online for when they are lost. You can call the manufactures of the machines and buy them direct also usually.

05/24/2011 01:51:34PM Session Started with Dell Agent
05/24/2011 01:51:34PM Cal Leeming: "Drive bay screws! "
05/24/2011 01:51:36PM Dell Agent: "Welcome to Dell Chat Sales - Business; this is Satish , your Dell Sales Advisor. My email address is satish_vinjarpu@dell.com."
05/24/2011 01:51:38PM Dell Agent: "Hello Cal"
05/24/2011 01:51:43PM Dell Agent: "There are a few instances where chats get disconnected (we don't disconnect you on purpose),just in case this happens, can I have your contact number to get back to you or alternatively please email me or come back on chat with my name."
05/24/2011 01:51:51PM Cal Leeming: "Hi there. Can you tell me where I can buy drive bay screws from for the Dell R310?"
05/24/2011 01:52:30PM Dell Agent: "Cal may I confirm are you talking the caddies for the hard drive."
    05/24/2011 01:52:38PM Cal Leeming: "Correct"
05/24/2011 01:53:06PM Dell Agent: "Cal we dont do caddies separately they come as standard with the hard drive."
05/24/2011 01:53:50PM Cal Leeming: "What if I need to replace the caddy because the plastic broke.. You're telling me I'd need to purchase a hard drive with it as well?"
05/24/2011 01:55:14PM Cal Leeming: "Are you still there?"
05/24/2011 01:55:26PM Dell Agent: "In case it is broken then you can get it replaced with a new hard drive."
05/24/2011 01:55:43PM Cal Leeming: "But I dont need a new hard drive. I need a new caddy."
05/24/2011 01:55:49PM Dell Agent: "Cal our technical support team and our warranty would cover the hard drives."
    05/24/2011 01:56:10PM Cal Leeming: "I don't have Dell warranty."
05/24/2011 01:56:45PM Cal Leeming: "I just need a replacement caddy, without the hardrive. Are you telling me the only way you sell proprietary caddys, is to force the customer to also purchase a hard drive with it?"
05/24/2011 01:56:46PM Dell Agent: "Cal in that case you will have to replace the whole hard drive."
05/24/2011 01:57:02PM Cal Leeming: "So, you're forcing me to replace the hard drive, even though the hard drive is fine??"
05/24/2011 01:57:12PM Dell Agent: "We dont sell caddies seprately,'"
05/24/2011 01:57:20PM Cal Leeming: "That is absolutely retarded."
    05/24/2011 01:57:26PM Session Ended

Just for your information, Dell DO sell the caddys seperatly!

I assume you do not have a account manager you can speak to?

Live support is useless. I was enquiring about a new server Dell announced, granted it was not yet listed on the website as a product but it is talked about in recent documents any how i was told that it was no longer stocked even though its a new model coming out soon.

Unless your question is relating to something really simple they do not have a clue unfortunatly.

Phone the Dell business line and explain you will get a much better service.
