Small Server Recommendations
Hi All,
Does anyone have a small server recommendation? Would be used for backups and imaging laptops, desktops, etc. Would like to have room to mirror 2x 3.5 sata drives if possible and some basic raid1 support. Not looking for anything fancy, just small and clean.
Thank you,

is this for colocation or just a server you plan on putting in your office? If you are just talking storage, you could probably get away with an old desktop, a RAID card and some SATA drives. I wouldn't put money somewhere it isn't really needed.

I think we're going to need a little more information. Is this for colocation? Assuming yes are you alright with building your own server from a supermicro barebones or does it need to be a pre-built solution? What backup software do you plan to use and how do you plan to transfer backups to the server? Can it be a pre-built appliance solution or does it need to be an actual server running windows or linux?

actually not for colocation, just something that looks professional, almost like an appliance that could site onsite at a customer's office. Main roles would be acronis, dfs, file & print, dns, web filtering and light rmm. Most likely 5-25 users range.

This will probably fit your requirements nicely http://www.synology.com/us/products/DS1511+/index.php
It runs linux and is fully customizable if you want to go that route, however it works very well out of the box with no customization needed for most applications.

make sure you don't do a rackmount server that sounds like jet engine in an office setting!
however, an Atom board in supermicro SC510T-200B (11" deep with 2x hot-swap 2.5" bays) can be pretty nifty. Atom doesn't need much cooling, therefore you can run the chassis fans at minimal level to be very quiet.
2.5" SATA can be 750G/1TB nowdays!

You can use SMC chassis like 520l-260B and motherboard x7spe-h-d525 with intel raid onboard. This system will support 2x 3.5" HDDs so it will be the right solution for you. Pricing is really low. As cwl@apaqdigital says you can just run fans at low level.
If any pricing info or help needed feel free to PM me
