    Fantastico vs. Softaculous.

I was wondering if the additional cost of Fantastico is actually worth it, in comparison to Softaculous?

Fantastico is the old script in business, and therefore, a lot of users know it and you might get some advertising benefits out of it.

However Softaculous is much better. They keep their scripts updated, and constantly add more - they're up on 194 - so the 200th script are there soon. Fantastico can take days or weeks to get scripts updated, and they "only" have 50 scripts or so.

So it really depends on you and your needs. I have decided that I would rather spend my money on Softaculous and Installatron, but that's my choice.

Having had both installed in the past, I can say that I honestly prefer Softaculous more.

If you currently have Softaculous, I wouldn't really say you 'need' Fantastico. Softaculous practically offers everything Fantastico does, and then some. But if you're simply wanting to add value or features to your service, the addition of both is a cheap way to go about it.

Thanks! I asked one of my friends and he said his business did grow quicker with the addition of Fantastico than Softaculous. I haven't had a look at Installatron though!

If you want my personal opinion, I think its good to have both. Fantastico comes stock with cpanel, so that is what some people are used to using. However, softaculous in my opinion is much more user friendly and offers 2x the amount of auto-install scripts as fantastico.

Fantastico is a throw back to days gone by.....everybody has moved on but they haven't.

Softaculous beats it hands down in every way.

+1 for Softaculous. I just wish their name was shorter so I could remember how to spell it!

That's a great point Fernando. We actually include both auto installers, Softaculous and Fantastico for our clients.

For Softaculous, you may obtain the Dedicated Server License at only $24/yr. I would look at this as an asset worth having Vs. the small price tag. In addition to this, the Fantastico regular license is only $90.00 for the year. I must admit, since we introduced Softaculous on our server a few months ago we noticed that the majority of the clients slowly started to lean towards Softaculous as their first stop to automated script/software installs and they’re shifting away from Fantastico which is available to them.

Also, speaking from personal experience, before we deployed the software we ran a few tests and played around with the interface and I found Softaculous to be a lot more user friendly and eye candy Vs Fantastico.

As Fernando suggested, I would go with both auto installers which will be an extra added value for your clients at the end of the day. I believe this may be a good selling point as well and Fantastico should still retain its shelf life for the next little while. However, in the long run, with the current updates and development being applied to Fantastico I can’t imagine it competing with Softaculous for long.

We have both installed but honestly, softaculous is a thousand times better than fantastico. More scripts, more user-friendliness, etc. I don't know why we even use Fantastico

I agree, when it first came out I thought it was softalicious (like bubble gum) lol. Took me a couple weeks to figure out it was softaculous (which is much harder to spell).

I'd only ever worked with Fantastico until beginning Zybrite, now I own a few licenses of Softaculous and absolutely love it. It offers much more customization in my opinion for the 1 touch install process (although I'm sure new people don't like this).

As others have stated it probably wouldn't hurt to offer both, but I would take Softaculous over Fantastico anyday.

Softaculous has more scripts than Fantastico, but the some of the default settings could be improved.

Fantastico < Installatron < Softaculous The devs at netenberg.com barely pay attention to any of the products they sell now.

    i'll stick with Softaculous also

Softaculous is the best option in my opinion. The design of Fantastico alone makes me want to download and install the script manually; it feels so outdated. But it is true that the average hosting customer knows fantastico well enough to want it included in their package. So offering both services is a plus.

We were avid fans of Fantastico (used it for 9 years) and was a huge part of our shared hosting business. In January 2010 we started loading Softaculous and by June 2010 we were finally finished removing fantastico from all our servers and replacing it with Softaculous.

The addition to be able to integrate your own scripts was a big help too.

We waited for almost 5 years for the "coming soon" Version 3.0 of Fantastico, but it never came. Today, they're so far behind that it's going to be rough to catch up. Just doesn't seem to have the manpower behind it to be competitive any more.

Softaculous releases software on a daily basis with an update or new script added. I love it, our staff love it, but most importantly, our clients love it!

Since we're on the topic of auto installers, has anyone used Installatron ? If so, what are your thoughts about the software? I noticed there are providers that include Installatron as their auto installer but we still went with Softaculous over this particular software.

I would start changing my mind I suppose, Softaculous

Even though they do not have as a great integration into cPanel like Installatron they do seem to offer some scripts that Installatron does not, a little cheaper and has an overall better list of features.
